But I noticed since the main manager is not around quality has considerably dropped. The barbacoa meat is more dry and not as tender. Also, another important thing that I noticed is the price hike. Prices when up by as much as 25% in some items. This is simply ridiculous. I will continue to go to this restaurant and I hope the quality increases at least given the drastic price increase.

So we decided to try the mexican restaurant last night that has created so much buzz around the city, with a restaurant in Masdar and a branch in mushrif mall and a food truck at most of the city's events. we ordered nachos which came with chipotle, salsa and ordered guacamole dips, horchata for drink, cheesy quesadillas and beautiful burrito. Man you guys are so far away, but the food was well worth the drive, freshly prepared food and cool staff. Must try their drink called Horchata, so yummy! Go try!

Awesome food! Hands down the best Mexican food in Abu Dhabi. Our family had Barbacoa Tacos and Chicken burritos which were fantastic. The chips and salsa are great! The banana pudding was an excellent dessert!

I had lunch in Barbacoa yesterday. I really liked my tacos but I was a bit disappointed there were no corn tortillas available. The horchata was very good as well. Things i suggest to improve: the tacos were cold by the time they reached my table and the pico de gallo contains very big chunks of tomato. De todos modos, el sabor es muy rico. Mucho exito en el emprendimiento. Saludos. Keep it up! Worth to go that far as I live in the city.

I love the freshness in their food and they way they make it, its absolutely amazing to see the chefs make the food right in front of you, And their Signature drinks which are Horchata's and Bebidas are something different and never been served anywhere else. My favourite is the Plantain Bebidas and Cinnamon and Vanilla Horchatas.

I tried a vegetarian taco and Mexican rice with cilantro. Impeccable taste. Fast delivery , faster than expected. Decently packed and served with culinary in a paper bag with bill posted on front. Deducting one star as I think potion is too small to be eligible for a full meal.

The food (in the attached pic) cost me 27dhs.<br/>The quesidillas were horrible. I took just a bite. The chicken tasted bad, uncooked. And it had only chicken, nothing else and dint come with any dip. The nachos were just chips, plain chips!<br/>Not recommended at all. Save your money!

Burritos are great here, and such a big portion. Good variety on the menu. Salsas were good. Great for a quick lunch or take out, not much decor. Very good service.

Food is generally very good; however the packaging leaves a lot to be desired and the food tends to spill into the bag. Also, it would be nice if they could send a delivery men who could speak English. Not all clients speak Malbari.

We arrived 15 minutes before closing but they still served us. We ordered the bowl with rice, beans, vegetables, chicken and spicy sauce. We also ordered the burrito and the food was pretty good. Worth a visit.

So we decided to go to Barbacoa and ordered a variety of things including burrito,, quesadillas, tacos, horchata. For starter was the tortilla with various dips including a guacamole. I recommend this place, the staff is excellent and service was brilliant. I will definitely go there again.

Ordered this for our monthly office lunch and it was great. Delivery was a little delayed. <br/>I had their vegetarian burrito and it was fulfilling! The other dishes ordered, Tacos and Chicken burritos looked plentiful as well. Good value for pricing. One room for improvement is the guacamole. It was bland and had a little too much onion. Please perfect this so we can place a big order again!

Ordered delivery last night, it came super quick so great job there. The barbacoa burrito was great, no complaints there. The burrito bowl not so good, lots of juice from the pico de gallo making everything soggy, but that may be the consequences of ordering that dish as a delivery. Surprised to find sweetcorn, mushrooms and olives in the bowl also, never seen pico de gallo with those ingredients before, and hope to never see it again. Will/would order again, just avoid the pico de gallo if you're ordering delivery. Also, the menu we received with the order listed tres leches cake but I did not see this as an option on the Zomato app. Totally would have ordered it if it was..

Amazing experience... Tasty Mexican food. This little fast food restaurant is located at the end of Masdar City. Easy parking reachable from the back, near the pool of Masdar.<br/><br/>The food & menu is very similar to what Chipotle offers in the U.S. However this being slightly more authentic. Being a Mexican myself i won't consider this 100% authentic, however it is a good Mexican Option. The quesadillas were good, however the guacamole was not really nice. <br/><br/>Service was friendly and attentive.

I am so disappointed of Barbacoa Masdar. I bought a Quesadilla, and with such a meal you expect to have enough sauce, and sour cream to finish your meal. What I got is not even 1 ounce of sauce (see attached pic), and told me that I have to pay if I want sour cream or any more sauce.<br/>For a AED35 meal you would expect more. <br/>Neve gonna go back again, and all my friends.

There are days you just want a burrito. For delivery in this area you'd be hard pressed to find a better option. The Burrito game is strong, but skip the chips/salsa/rice. The Fajitas are a okay, but nothing to write home about. But, if you want a burrito...

If you offer discounts to certain companies, then you need to make sure that your staff are aware of the exact discounts instead of offering petty excuses as to why the advertised discount cannot be offered.

The best burrito i have ever had. The staff was so helpful in letting us know and showing us everything around the kitchen. Amazing as a first experience with Mexican food. 3 Leche Cake was so delicious as well. Would definitely do this again.

The food is delicious, I personally prefer the beef over the chicken. I was pleased with the freshness of the guacamole, and I liked that they toast the burrito before wrapping it up. <br/><br/>I didn't give this establishment a 5 star rating because of the prices and the service. I don't think charging extra for sour cream and cheese is fair especially when they are essential elements of a burrito. Regarding the service, the people helping me were quite slow and saw me standing waiting to order, and ignored me to help customers who came after me. If I'm not at the right spot to place my order, why not let me know instead of me wasting my time?

It is a good restaurant for authentic Mexican food. The service is good and food is tasty but the seating area is small. The location is a bit hard and no signs around to guide to the restaurant.

Loved it. Reminded me of San Antonio Texas. Food was great. Very fulfilling. Pico de Gallo awesome. Stay was great. Really love Mexican food and to find it in Abu Dhabi is really amazing.

When i lived in the US i LIVED at Chipotle and have been waiting for it to come here... but now theres this place fresh food that doesnt make you feel gross after, huuuge portions and variety to suit everyone (veggies included) totally loved this place and they deliver! awesome

I always go for the beef burrito and I really loved it. I would love if they add more Mexican starters specially nachos with cheese and the beef nachos.

I ordered chicken tacos for delivery and I'm sad to say the only good thing about the whole experience was the decent delivery time. The chicken was super salty and dry and I can't even describe how bad the sauces were. The pico was bland and the spicy chipotle sauce (I believe that's what it was), literally tasted like canned tomato paste with chili flakes thrown in. LITERALLY. It's sad to see such a decline in quality since I visited when they first opened and it was actually good. I noticed management is very diligent about responding to negative reviews and that's all well and good but at some point it comes down to whether or not something is actually being done about improving quality. Clearly it isn't happening. If you're really hankering for a good taco or burrito try Baja Fresh in yas mall instead. Fresh ingredients and super taste. Goodbye Barbacoa.

Barbacoa is a must in my every Masdar City visit! Their Mexican dishes are really fresh and so good. The prices are not too bad also. Their quesadilla is the best!!

We happened to be in Masdar City last week and was looking for options on Zomato to get a quick bite, when we came across this place. Not only the food was delicious but was served very quickly. And not to forget, fresh!! <br/>We ordered for Tacos, Chicken<br/>Burrito and Chicken Quesadilla and i must say it was delicious. The sauce with Tacos had this amazing flavour which I haven't had before.<br/>Would definitely visit again and recommend.

Hubby & I were staying in AUH  for 4 days and on the 2nd day we headed out to Masdar City only because I had Barbacoa on my bookmarks. The place was easy to find after you walk through the beautiful Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. (It helps to build your appetite). The menu is simple so that its easy for you to order all the freshly goodness.<br/><br/>The food was fresh, delicious and served promptly. Hubby & I devoured the entire bowl. It was filling without making us feel overstuffed.<br/><br/>Sitting in Dubai, now I'm craving for it for past couple of days. This is the worst place to have food. I ordered Tacos Chicken and it was takeaway.They served Tacos Chicken full of salt.So I suggest those who are planning to have food from this place have to think twice.

So was introduced to this place when I 1st came to Abu Dhabi and what I liked about the place is that everything is so fresh and you never get tired of options in front of you. I have tried almost everything here and by far my favourite is the New Mexican burger they introduced, it has that slight tangy sweetness to the braised beef and is just right. Drinks , they used to have this plantain horchata and it was amazing, but unfortunately they have stopped. Been here while I was visiting abudhabi, a really nice place to visit especially if you are into flavours of Mexico. We popped into Barbacoa last night as we fancied a snack on my wife's birthday. The food was outstanding - really genuinely good.  JJ and Ryan really looked after us and produced some lovely cake when they found out about the birthday. Al the staff made a fuss of my wife which was nice. JJ has a real passion for food and takes really family inspiration which is appreciated.  There is not a lot of space to sit but its not really that type of place. People have been raving about the authenticity of Mexican eatery Barbacoa for sometime now. So when we found ourselves sightseeing with visitors in Masdar City this week, we decided to deviate from our usual dining spot (Jim's Kitchen Table) and head here instead.<br/><br/>Barbacoa is a small restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, that can probably seat 20 people total. The interior has an open 'kitchen' and resembles world sandwich chain Subway in its operating methods - your Mexican dish is created right in front of you.<br/><br/>The venue is non-descript, with a black and green colour scheme, some basic tables and very little atmosphere. The menu is limited to soft tacos, quesadillas and bowls, plus tortilla chips and a small beverage selection.<br/><br/>With such a limited menu you would hope that the food that is available is exceptionally good and On the whole Barbacoa gets its right. We opted for the fish tacos (crisp and fresh) plus the Barbacoa (beef) tacos -,we inundated our chosen options with fresh fillings and thoroughly enjoyed each morsel.<br/><br/>This is not your stereotypical Americanised version of Mexican cuisine, but a far more authentic option. Though the fact that everything is created freshly in front of you is a definite bonus.<br/><br/>The tortilla chips with guacamole were wonderful and the spicy sauce has a nice kick to it. Plus they sell horchata's - a classic Mexican beverage made from milk.<br/><br/>On the whole Barbacoa is worth a visit, but more for a quick bite or takeaway than a full dine-in experience. Best of all its in the entertainer too.<br/>

I have ordered here four times and each time they mess up my order. They either forget part of my order or add something to my order that I did not want and end up having to go there myself to get it redone.

I love this place. It's always fresh and delicious. Busy during lunch hour but the wait is never long. The tres leche cake is the most comforting food

Shame. Went to order for the first time tonight and got informed that the minimum order for delivery is AED75. They were made aware that I am a new customer but still couldn't bend the rules on a Wednesday night for a delivery which is about 2 mins away from the restaurant by motorbike.

Great flavor a and really nice portion sizes....finally! Everything is very fresh and service is fairly fast. Make sure that you check what costs extra before you put it on your dish ( they won't mention it). My only recommendation would be to improve the salsa offerings. The only spicy one was also creamy. The "tomatillo" salsa was red and tasted like tomatoes. All in all, they are producing a good product so far, with just a few tweaks it could be fantastic!

I am a big fan of mexican food. Recently I am deputed to Abu Dhabi for work. This restaurant is at my workplace. Today I went there with some of my colleagues. I was a bit skeptical how would be the food. <br/>I ordered Tacos. They made it fresh in front of me. When I had the first bite, my brain and heart instantly echoed - Oh My God! This is the best mexican food I am having in a long time!!!<br/><br/>Super tasty, super cost-effective, super everything place!!! <br/><br/>I will go back definitely!!!

Fresh clean NOURISHING food, served hot. I had seafood burrito with the dijon chipotle dressing and refried beans.<br/><br/>Salad that it was stuffed with still tastes crunchy and fresh (it was 5pm)... The chips and guacamole taste authentic.<br/><br/>The best thing was that it wasnt soooo flavorful that you get the 'el chico sickly' feeling, but it was farrrr from tasteless and dry (which I fear because barburrito, a similar concept in UK, provides for really bland food). It was just clean, happy, steaming hot fresh food. Let me tell you, when you eat out it is a rare occasion to be served something so fresh and clean that you feel NOURISHED. <br/><br/>The owner pays attention to detail, and despite being open for business for a year, hasn't cut costs by cutting portion size. He pays attention to detail and prides himself in the authenticity and freshness of the food.<br/><br/>I wouldn't give it 5/5 because I'm big on comfortable seating and the chairs weren't padded, the AC was a tad high, the music a little too loud and the lighting was quite white. If I could, I'd suggest seat cushions, sturdier tables, and yellowish lighting. Then the ambiance would match the food.<br/><br/>

Got some take out from here and have mixed feelings. The chicken was actually pretty good and well seasoned. The tortilla chips were good and the salsas and guacamole where not bad at all. The rice is a HUGE let down, it's just plain white basmati rice... Why would you not make Mexican rice? It's pretty easy to do. The corn was also blah, as it was not seasoned or anything. <br/><br/>Overall I'm sad to say I was disappointed and probably won't be going back :( too bad because j love Mexican food. <br/>

The food is great! i had their taco with barbacoa and spicy chipotle honey dijon. The meat was so juicy and delicious, and everything was fresh. Will definitely do it again, but probably will just order delivery cause we mistakenly took the restricted road that goes right up to the restaurant. The security gates were open on the way up, but when trying to go back, they were all closed. Anyway, we called the restaurant and the manager was great help. To keep it short, the issue was resolved quickly. If you go there, make sure you enter the first parking lot you see. do not continue straight towards the security gates, EVEN IF the guards open it for you.

I am writing this while biting my lip! Why? Because I really really really wanted to love this place as I am obsessed with Mexican food and this is so close to me, also I read all the positive reviews so I needed this place to satisfy my Mexican cravings now!!!!!! Well it didn't to be honest and I wanted to cry... We had both the chicken and beef tacos and a some nachos but everything tasted bland unfortunately :( I feel like they have the potential to do so much better that's why I am upset but I will give them another try just to be fair and I hope they prove me wrong because I want them to ;)

Took a bit of time to find Barbacoa since there is lack of proper signposts at Masdar. We went in the afternoon and there was noone in sight but a lone guy behind the counter. The food was made fresh, had a healthy wholesome flavour. Perhaps a bit too homemade for you but perfect for people who prefer to eat well cooked natural (without artificial preservatives). <br/><br/>We were able to take to choose between chicken, fish and beef tacos (all 3 at once if you like!) and opted for a variety of toppings. A bit messy to eat, so not recommended for a first date. Quesadilla was very good.  The authentic Mexican drinks are interesting too.

Back with another review. This is my first time eating a burrito and what an experience. I entered the place sweating from the long walk from my car at night hoping to try something new. I got the chicken burrito with the Chips and Salsa and a Horchata to drink with. All was great to be honest except for the Horchata. I just didn't like the taste but others might. An overall good experience. I'd suggest adding less beans to get the other flavours.

Its one of those restaurants that become "you're favorite " from the first bite. By far the best Mexican place in Abu Dhabi. Their beef tacos is to die for. The only downside is the location which is a bit confusing at first. Otherwise 10 out of 10.

Barboca is fun for few days but the extremely limited menu (4 Dishes) gets old soon enough. The pricing is fine and the food is tasty. The Horchata was very sweet (maybe that's how it is supposed to be). All in all, it is totally worth your time and visit and I wish them good luck.

Loved the quality, taste and options. <br/><br/>The downside for me?<br/>The rice had the texture of mashed potatoes. It's also pretty expensive for Mexican food.

I tried Barbacoa for home delivery after reading the good reviews on Zomato. <br/><br/>I was not disappointed! The quality of food was great (even though it was home delivered). My meal came fast and within the time promised. I recommend the beef burrito which just melts in your mouth and is very filling. <br/><br/>I tried the tamarind(?) Mexican drink which was really refreshing but was not packed appropriately for delivery so it exploded when I took it out of the bag. Perhaps bottling the drinks would be a better idea.<br/><br/>I look forward to ordering again and trying out the other items on the menu!

It's not what I expected. <br/><br/>Barbacoa is a small cafe located in the Masdar Institute. It has three dining tables and a long counter. During our visit all three tables and half the counter were occupied. We had no alternatives but to sit at the counter. <br/><br/>Behind the sitting counter is the food counter where you select what you want. It's concept is the same as that of Chipotle and Tqado.<br/><br/>I chose a burrito with white tortilla bread with barbaccoa, cheese, beans and the mild sauce. The burrito was then put on a grill to heat up a bit. When I finally had a bite of the burrito it seemed to be overheated because everything was softer than it was supposed to be. I didn't like it very much, it was just 'okay'. The organic coke tasted like normal coke.<br/><br/>The waitresses was friendly. <br/><br/>Bottom line: okay.

Perfect Mexican place to quench your irresistible hunger for quesadilla and tacos. The place is nicely tucked inside Masdar City and to our surprise was very quiet and we almost had the place to ourselves even though it was a Friday nite. We ordered a quesadilla and a taco with chicken filling and were left wanting for more. The chicken and salads used in it were very fresh and the sauces esp the red chile salsa was spicy enuf to make us grab the lemonade (organic soda) which was the best way to cool ?. Surely a place to visit.??

The food is very fresh, the barbacoa is more like deshebrada but very juicy! We were happy with the burrito n quesadilla. Flavors are close to home. Hope they open in more locations!

So this was not the sit-down place recommended by my friend but actually the food stand at Mushrif Park. I have to say that not since watching my Mexican friend's mom prepare and feed me quesadillas have I had one so good. Maybe I was just happy to see a place boasting the authenticity of a Mexican favourite. Maybe i just miss Linda's...anyway, I was pleased. I also took a spicy dip on the side whichbwas, well, spicy. Loved it!

We've had barbacoa delivered multiple times now and each time it's delicious, fresh and hot. It's the best mexican we've had in AD. Thanks for being awesome!

Had the chicken quesadilla and nachos with the honey spicy dip.. at mushrif central park for the last 3 Saturday's..love it! I am so happy to have tried this restaurant and without hesitation can say that their food is delicious. We tried their beef burrito, chicken and beef quesadilla and their seafood taco.<br/><br/>All of the plates tasted like home made authentic Mexican food, really fresh ingredients and prepared right in front of you.<br/><br/>You have a choice of whatever dish you want taco/ burrito/ quesadilla and then you choose your filling and added veggies and extras plus the sauce you would like. <br/><br/>Friendly staff and manager, a really nice place i look forward to going back to.

Barbacoa is my new favorite Mexican style food place. They remind me of a chipotles back in the USA or Taqados in the UAE but it's better.<br/><br/>Everything they serve is made fresh that day or the night before and they aren't kidding. You can taste the freshness in every bite. <br/><br/>Wendi got the tacos on corn flour tortillas and they made the tortillas right in front of her. Neither of us have ever seen anything like it at any similar establishment. She got chicken for the meat and was very pleased with the result. <br/><br/>I got a burrito with the Barbacoa meat which is a sort of a shredded beef. I got it in a burrito and it was divine. I was super impressed. Then we got a side order of tortilla chips and guacamole. Maybe a tad bit too salty but still very delicious. <br/><br/>I am only sad that it is only in Masdar City right now. I hope more open up on island in Abu Dhabi. <br/><br/>Either way this place is a must try.

Had the fortune of receiving a wonderful voucher for this fine establishment who were kind enough to allow me to use it for delivery and for that I am gtateful.<br/><br/>I got the chicken burrito with the hottest chipotle sauce they had. This thing was hot and spicy and super tasty. Could not recommend this more. I devoured this flavourful combination of beans rice and chicken wrapped within a soft tortilla with much gusto and in very little time soon after the first bite haha. <br/><br/>If this is authentic Mexican flavour and their quality is this good for delivery then i want more and cant wait to go there and dine in and enjoy a meal.<br/><br/>Top job Barbacoa. Thouroughly satisfied.<br/>

What a wonderfull little joint with such nice food.<br/><br/>So the order was 2 beef burritos, one with coleslaw and the other with the salsa, then a quesadilla with chicken and honey dijon sauce and lastly the seafood bowl.<br/><br/>The quesadilla was my favorite. I loved the slightly sweet chicken with melted cheese and the dijon rounded it of well with that sharp flavour.<br/>The burritos were beyond stuffed so they made for a very filling meal. The are very mild in flavour, cause of all the rice and ofcourse the burriot wrap, with a slightly tangy taste from the sauces. The beef is really good well cooked and perfectly seasoned.<br/><br/>Lastly the seafood bowl. This wash fish fillet on a bed of rice and salad. Im not much of a fish person but I did try it and could tell it was well cooked and flavoured. <br/><br/>So thumbs up for everything most especially the quesadilla!<br/><br/>This time we got a take away so the food had gotten a little cold; im sure it would have been beyond yumm if it were fresh. Also there is very minimal oil and ingredients are good quality. So all in all this place is a win for me! <br/><br/>Good Mexican food at a good price. Only wish they could start a place in the city.

Anyone who's missing chipotle, here is the solution jk. I recommend it because their food is fresh and the taste is delicious. The location is a bit far for those who can't get to Masdar City. I hope they can open another branch inside AbuDhabi island. The price is fine and the atmosphere is weird because of the emptiness and the quietness there. Ummm the service was not bad I guess. I ate here in October and the food was great and well priced. A good find for anyone missing Chipotle like I do. Unfortunately the location in Masdar City is a bit inconvenient and they only deliver orders above 100dhs. Would be a regular customer otherwise

We have been wanting to try this place for a long time but have not managed to get away. So the other day, we were in masdar city for a fest so decided to give it a try. We tried only the nachos with the normal and spicy salsa and guacamole and it was good. Though when we asked for sour cream to go with it, they asked for a separate charge which we felt was quite expensive. The ambiance is casual and kind of like a fast food place. Looking forward to try other items as well on our next trip.

This has the best food ever!!! We have visited Barbacoa for lunch and I have ordered lunch for Business lunches and I cannot say enough about the tastiness and freshness of the food! We have had a Bebidas  that was out of this world, You are really missing out if you do not try this place. The staff are friendly and always willing to help with the choices they have.

I had a burrito with chicken filling mild with sides of chips with salsa and guacamole. I loved the chips and the guacamole but i did not enjoy the salsa it was not a traditional salsa and it was too spicy for my liking. The burrito on the other hand was really good, i loved it. Though i feel that you should only order it if you are really hunger and can actually eat that huge burrito, in most pictures it does not show how big it is but its pretty big and extremely satisfies. What i loved about it is that it was fresh and light and not greasy and made with ingredients that are bland and actually taste old.

Finally got the chance to visit this place Went on a Thursday night place was dead but the food was truly amazing loved it and will be back for more soon <br/><br/>Today we had a feast from Barbacoa at our office. Positively amazing food

Food is amazing, service is good however at busy times there is a lack of coordination between the staff. They are friendly and helpful though!

Obviously fresh food! I took the tacos with chicken. Tacos, sour cream,guacamole good,but could not taste the chicken. Shame that all the liquids started dripping out of the taco,which made it a big mess. Next time I'll go for the bowl,maybe less messy

My friend Jesus has a definite home run with this restaurant.  Everything is freshly made and delicious. The first ti e I walked in, he had masa in his hand padding down a fresh corn tortilla. So, "you had me at hello" . Will be back with more mejicanos alegres!

I come here quite often and must say that they consistently deliver great food.  I always get the same thing (bowl with barbacoa beef, lettuce, black olives, mushrooms, jalapenos, cucumber, the tomato salsa topping and then the homemade vinaigrette they make).   The couple that runs the place are terrific and I think they have a winning restaurant here that can become a franchise one day if they can scale up the delicious barbacoa beef they make!<br/>If you are in Masdar Insitute, this is a terrific place for lunch... if you are in the vicinity (Khalifa City, Raha Beach etc...) then worth the drive to Masdar if you are craving Mexican food!

As my search for great Mexican food in Abu Dhabi continues I believe I've made a breakthrough of sorts. I've found my regular spot. <br/>Barbacoa is located in Masdar City and is owned and operated by a young Mexican American couple using family recipes to provide a Chipolte style dining experience. For those not familiar with Chipolte, imagine Subway for Mexican food. <br/>There are a few offerings including burritos, tacos and bowls. These can be filled with various meats, chicken, steak and barbacoa. Adding toppings to your liking created a unique experience. <br/>All of the toppings and sauces are homemade, including the refried beans, guacamole, and the various sauces. <br/>You can tell all the food is made in small batches with the care that one would expect from a home cooked meal. <br/>I hope everyone gives this place a try as I believe it's the most authentic and tastiest Mexican you will find in the UAE. Try the beans and Barbacoa and enjoy.
