This is such a fantastic restaurant! The owner was incredibly kind, and the food was delivered for free to us in less than 5 minutes. I highly recommend the borscht and salad Olivier; probably the best I've had in my entire life. It even beats the food I've had in Russia. Delicious food, and a lovely experience :)
Such an amazing little gem. Honest home cooked meal. The owner takes care of you like you are her own child. I love this place.
The food was very fresh and yummy! I ordered the potato and cheese vareniki and I will certainly be going back for more! Satisfied my craving completely.
One of my favorite restaurants in Abu Dhabi! Cozy atmosphere and some great home-cooked food. Highly recommend the pelmini (with mushroom and cheese), the vareniki (with potato), the pancakes with cheese (it has sweet cheese and yogurt), and the borsch. If you want some dessert, their honey cake is wonderful!
It was great to taste some russian food. 😍
I have been craving Russian food for days, so I ordered delivery from here. We got meat pancakes, plov, Russian Style pasta, and pirojkis (potato and meat)
The food arrived very quickly, within 45 minutes. I was impressed! Meat pancakes and both types of pirojkis were absolutely amazing and really hit the spot. Unfortunately the pasta lacked flavour, but was still okay. The plov however was not authentic at all. It tasted more like a Chinese fried rice. It was very disappointing as I do love a good, flavourful plov. However, it did satisfy my cravings so it’s good overall! Will probably order from here again, but my hunt for good plov continues!
A dining experience unlike any other you've experienced. There are no Michelin stars here nor is this a romantic experience. What you do get, however, is an authentic and unique home cooked Russian meal. I'd imagine this is exactly what it would be like to be in a remote part of Russia and to serendipitously meet a lovely Russian lady who invites you into her home. Every detail down to the unique sour cherry drink which is made from imported cherries will have you eager to come back. 6 stars wouldn't do this place justice.
What a lovely cozy place to go for yumy real hearty food
went for late lunch today after long time since know about this tiny great place but was unable to find company as not all my friends are open to try new cuisine
Place is in hamdan street near Russian embassy not easy to park as this area having parking issue but since it is friday was easy to park.
Lovely nice neat place with simple decoration but great
place is not big so cannot fit for big groups
We first had vegetable beef bourch soup with the russian bread it is simply yummy healthy soup!
We had compot cherry drink amd kvas which is kind of freshing non alcohol beer abd we loved both drinks
The cherry compot drink the nice lady who is owner of place Anna made it from cherries she got from her farm on ukraine
then we had chicken kiev with best ever mashed potato I had in my life!
and we had crepes stuffed with cottage cheese served with sour cream this thing was so deleciouse too!
then we ended this great meal with tea with cinamon powder (I asked for cinamon and Anna had it in her kitchen too)
Highly recommended and will definetly go back there to try more russian tasty food
Really tasty eastern european cousine. Interior might not be the fanciest, but food tastes good and prices do not bite. Service is speedy and welcoming
Odnośnie kotleta super, dobrze doprawiony i idealnie wysmażony, dosłownie przed chwilą przygotowany. Za samo jedzenie wyszło by około 60. Tylko polecać :-)
I was eating Russian cuisine for the first time and was expecting something extremely different, but once we saw their picture menu ( name of the dish with a pic of how it looks) , I realised that most things look quite familiar.. We tried 4 dishes amongst 3 of us - a cold soup ( basically laban with parsley and sausages), dumplings ( momos like) in soup and bell peppers stuffed with meat and rice. All 3 tasted great but nothing extraordinary. What stole the show was the dessert. Their honey cake and sour cream cake, both were mind-blowing. I'd say, have just the 2 cakes!
Both the cafe and food was simple but still nice. The desert cakes were definitely the high point. Staff were friendly. The only point of difference I noticed was some of the soups lacked the body you would expect in the broth. All in all worth the experience. Thanks
I ate better borsch here than in Kiev! It was delicious, very cosy and friendly little restaurant. The price is little bit much for east-european budget but it has avarage prices in UAE.
Amazing food in this restaurant. Purely Russian taste, very friendly staff. Soups all great, same at home. All food is fantastic. Not many people know about this restaurant because of location. But you have to try this delicious food.Satisfied
OMG, I rarely rate a 5.. This place took me back to Moscow memories..
The place is not fancy.. it's like being at ur mum's home.. warm home cooked food.. with simple plates..
Nothing fancy.. but awesome delicious food..
*Will I go back again!! YES
Delicious Ukrainian cuisine; a good variety of selected dishes. Food tastes homemade and is healthy. It's better than in hotels where things are overpriced and often low quality.
New experience with Ukranian food "its not russian as it says".
The food tastes good and like homemade, the place is very simple no fancy atmosphere but it worth trying 👍🏼
Love their cakes: cherepaha, tasted like coconut, and medovik (honeycake)
Main course didn't really fit for my asian tongue. I ordered grechka(buckwheat) with beef stroganoff and found grechka hard to chew (but healthy actually)
Came here after work and had feeling that I'm back to Russia. Very lovely lady meet as at entrance. At first we ordered national soups and almost started to cry from happiness, also took compote and salad, pelmeni and pancakes with meat. That's were our stairway to heaven. Design is not very good, but who cares when you have Russian TV and Ukrainian/Russian food with lovely lady! Will come back here for sure
Food is amazing, like at home.
The staff is so friendly. There are even philipino girls understand the menu very well and always will help you with your choice if you not familiar with this kind of food.
I love it.
This is my choice of restaurant when I'm craving for homemade food. I love their Solyanka soup and their cabbage rolls. Service is not too good, but food is worth it
First time trying russian cuisine in a restaurant and not disappointed. Authentic house made Russian Food for a good ratio quality / price. Everything yummy from the salads to the honey cake (it is a must) !
Im not a regular here but the 4 times i have tried it the food has been exceptional Borsh, Pelmini, Potato Vareneki are my favorites with the honey cake and the kvas.
A hidden gem indeed. Neatly tucked in near Russian Embassy, the place may seem very small but offers a lot for its quality. All items have a home cooked vibe. The meat pies and pelmini were amazing and topped off with honey cake was amazing.
This place is warm and cozy, almost makes you feel like your visiting the home of this Ukrainian family.
The food is spot on fresh and delicious and has stayed consistent over the years as the owner has her hand in the kitchen.
The good thing is they now have a picture album of the dishes so you can decide what you like if you are not familiar to the cuisine.
I highly recommend the vegetable borsch with beef, the soup solyanka, pickled tomato, herring salad, dumplings.
If your driving down to this little nook situated behind the Russian embassy, it's better to park near Al mariah cinema as parking is next to impossible in this area.
Really authentic food, very nice and quick service without the frills. Borscht, lagmaan and medovic (honey) cake are a must try!
A bit hard to find but ask cab drivers for the Russian embassy and then kinda walk around till you find it.
Lovely small restaurant tucked away in a corner. We tried the lamb broth, cabbage dumplings and Russian drink Kvas. All the dishes were freshly prepared and quantity was good!
Been there few times n tried many dishes but never went wrong.....But a dash of Tabasco does gud for Indian palate...... Parking is a nightmare.
Visited the restaurant after reading some very good reviews here. We pretty much know what to order, thanks to the contributors here. For the main course, we ordered The Russian Style Pasta and Beef Cutlet with Mashed Potatoes. As for dessert, we have opted for cake medovik. However, we feel that the food are slightly over rated. But the cake medovik (honey cake) is really good. The taste is simply heavenly. A must try dessert if you visit this restaurant.
Never having tried Russian or Ukranian food before, I was always eager to dine here. Ordering the first time was a bit difficult because unlike other reviewers here, we were not provided with the picture book. However, the kind lady asked me a few questions and based on my answers, made suggestions. We ordered the Beef with onions and Russian style macaroni. Funnily after we ordered, we were presented with the book. The food was devoured just as quickly as it arrived. It was piping hot and was perfect winter food. We also tried the compote which was made out of fresh berries. It was delicious. The second time around, we requested for the picture book and after some Russian ‘show and tell’ we ordered Manti, Kiev cutlet, Beef stuffed cabbage roll. Invariably, all of the food here is garnished with dill and the flavour can sometimes seem tad overwhelming. A must try is the Kvass. I almost instantly fell in love with this fermented beverage made from rye bread and ended up ordering more. The ambience is not fancy; it’s a cafeteria after all. The service is very affectionate and homely. I found this in Zomato’s ‘Hidden Gems’ collection and it truly lives up to be one.
Nice and simple. Home made food that is very healthy and nice................................................................................
Excellent food. There is nothing i tried that wasn't perfect. Very nice ambience. Restaurant is very simple and cozy. Food feels like its homemade. Highly recommended
This review is purely based on my one time experience here. I haven't tasted Russian food before and my knowledge is only a bare minimum.
The ambiance is very nice and welcoming. Very complimentary to the food.
Me and a friend shared a compote, small potato pie, chicken kiev and the very famous 'cake medovic'
The compote tasted like mulled Christmas. Refreshing and delicious. The potato pie was below average and did nothing to elevate our taste buds in order to get us ready for the meal. The chicken kiev too wasn't seasoned very well and lacked in texture.
The medovic cake: Best honey cake I've ever tasted. The flavour of honey isn't subtle like many others I've had. It was dark and rich. The deep amber cake sliced cleanly and tasted like orange and rose scented forest flowers with a relief from the sweet cream. Best cake I have had in a long while!
The bill was quite a shock. Around 60 dhs. for just a few dishes.
I cannot wait to go back to savour the honey cake and perhaps try their other desserts.
This restaurant one of the best Russian and ukrainian food that I tried, it is home made food by originally ukrainian chef woman that will make u feel that she invite you at her home, I wanted to give 5 as rate but I choose 4 because of small restaurant and not fancy place but the food quality is 5 of course, thanks for hospitality and delicious food.
Authentic Russian/Ukrainian food! Amazing taste and a cosy feeling to the location almost home like...😍😍😍
Love the elder couple who treat you and cater to your needs with such kindness. 😍
It seems like your mother is asking you what do you want to eat for dinner? A mother with nearly home dress is serving me. She helped me to order and show me some photos to chose from. actually without the reviews I would've been lost. Thanks Delaine Dcosta.
*Service is mother service
*food quality is normal but it is healthy as it really home made
*location is difficult to find parking but I was lucky enough to find one.
Recommended.....try it. Different food style.
It was my third visit to The Russian Kitchen and it has always been a great dining experience...The owner was very friendly and recommended some traditional dishes..we had the Russian steak, beef cutlet and the plov...The Compote was sweet and refreshing..and the home made honey cake at the end was heavenly...Will keep visiting to try everything else on the menu..
It may look simple from the outside and simple when you enter inside, but the food here in amazing. I have never tried Russian food before and I was quite impressed. We ordered potato pies, manti, Lagman, Russian style pasta, Kvas and Compote.
Ditch the coke and try out their unique refreshing drinks Kvas and Compote.
I am a fan of their pasta or should I say macaroni that I ended up taking some home for dinner. Its simple yet so tasty.
The portions are good and the food is very affordable. The best part is you feel right at home!
More Ukranian than Russian! Ukranian food is crazy delicious. Well, this gem of a place has some Russian food on the menu too. I couldn't believe it when i found out that this place has been around for 12 years! I missed out on a lot of delicious cooking in the past 12 years!!
My friend pretty much fell of his chair when he tasted the cabbage roll and the potato dumplings. It reminded him of his mum's cooking. Now thats a very bold statement, but I couldn't have agreed more after taking that first bite of cabbage roll. The potato dumpling tasted and looked exactly like pierogis. Every bite just melts in your mouth.
The Lagman was so flavourful. The three pancakes (cheese, meat and jam) was perfect.
The host of the evening, the Ukranian lady was fun to talk to. That dining experience was definitely a night to remember. Just make sure you go there on time. When they say 10pm as closing time, they mean 10pm. We got the pierogis , oops! I mean potato dumplings and the pancakes as take away and ate in the car 😄
Read some reviews of this hidden gem awhile back and finally got the chance to experience it.
Straight to point...food was excellent!!! It's a very small place and the decor is very simple.
I had the "Russian style pasta" which was macaroni and a shredded beef. Sounds simple enough but perfectly seasoned! I also had one potatoe sandwich. Which is basically a deep fried potato stuffed with mashed potatoe lol it was plan but still good.
My husband had the "House style chicken" which was a half roast chicken smashed down into a steak lookin portion served with garlic mashed potatoes and a small green salad. Everything was filled with flavor. So if your not a fan of new bold flavors this is not for you. We enjoyed every bit of it. He also ordered the "pancakes". This side dish resembled a crepe. There were 5 different fillings: cabbage, potatoe, meet, cheese and jam. He got all but the cabbage. And these things were delicious.
To go with our meals we went with the "Compote" a delicious Russian tea/juice.
Over all a very delicious experience!! Will be back very soon!!!
It was nice experience.. The place is small cozy and highly recomended as you feel you are eating home made food.
The lady there is so nice and help you choosing the food .
I recomend the cabage roll which amazing and the kavos for drink ..
Russian Kitchen House is an institution of sorts now in Abu Dhabi. The usual expat exploration of different cuisines in the city won't be complete without a dinner at this place. I like the comfy decor and interior, making the place look more like a homely cafeteria. The food is top notch considering the limited options with Russian cuisine. Fantastic experience
Want genuine Russian food with personal service? This place is tiny but well worth locating and trying. I had stuffed bell peppers which were really excellent. You probably can't go wrong with any choice. Be prepared for the real thing.
Fantastic dumplings and cabbage rolls. The cakes are very delicious. The staff was so friendly and polite. The parking can be very difficult, but worth the fight for such nice food.
One of the loveliest restaurants in AD. Location might put you off, but you'd be missing out on the fantastic food. Portions are good, taste is great, cooking is real home made, parking might be an issue though but don't let it stop you.
I always leave this place happier than when I walked in.
Very very good homely, friendly, place that serves excellent cuisine. Expect no frills but be prepared for good value for money food. We went in a group and tried many dishes there was not even one that I could fault, all were good. Othe ox tongue, Ukrainian steak, steak and onions. Just one warning, vegetarians better avoid going there.
What an authentic experience. It's like you're eating in someone's house. The owner (Ukranian, not Russian), does everything. She makes sure you have a good, clean place to sit, she takes your order, makes suggestions, and brings you your food. It's like eating at the Ukrainian aunt's house I never had. It reminded me of the Ukrainian places I've been to in Chicago.
I could go on and on about how awesome the food is, because it is. Beyond that, the real reason you need to try this small, hidden gem of a restaurant is because they have meat in jelly; it's called Halodec. Don't knock it until you've tried it. It's similar to something we would have growing up. Simmenthal anyone?
Besides Halodec, we had Borscht (awesome), Cabbage Rolls (even more awesome), the aptly named Pancakes with Meat (super awesome), and Chicken Kiev Roll (melty cheese awesomeness). Every dish is worth going back for. There's not one thing I didn't like.
I will be driving to Abu Dhabi again for this restaurant because there is so much of the menu that I want to try. Don't let the distance from Dubai keep you from trying this place.
This place is truly a hidden gem! I came across it on Zomato when I had my craving for honey cake. This lovely little home like cafe came up top in my list for the cake.
Nestled somewhere close to the Russian embassy you spot this homely cafe, buzzing with people, who want their first taste of Russian cuisine. I ordered a honey cake (cake medovik as they call it) and a chicken broth ( feeling guilty after ordering a cake past a long walk at the corniche). I must say, that both were made as though they were made with love. The lady who served me was kind enough to give me suggestions and guide me through the menu.
The honey cake was absolutely delectable with honey butter cream and soft spongy layers. The broth was hearty and complete after my dessert dive! Since I had turned my dessert to my main course, I decided that this place deserves a trip again that I set my courses right.
This place is both easy on the pocket and yummy in the tummy! I'd say definitely go for it!
The place is a small and cosy one. . But it has only one lady server hence your order becomes kind of late. The food is nice and very pocket friendly. Their must try is of course their cakes. No parking available and in case you park in front. .. Get a fine of 300 dhs.
I heard about Russian Kitchen through word of mouth which immediately made me expect something special! I was not disappointed. The owner was so delightful and helpful guiding us towards our dinner choices. The borache was hearty, delicious and comforting. The rest of out meal was equally satisfying. There is something special about feeling like you're eating food prepared by someone who loves you and this is how we felt eating at Russian kitchen. I plan to visit again and again to keep discovering Russian and Ukrainian cuisine!
Small and quiet, but that does not begin to describe the food! The Russian chef/owner was delighted to play Mum for an hour, recommending the best Russian home made cuisine could offer. We were started off with a bowl of borsht stew, accompanied by a herring salad (deliciously mixed with beetroot and laid on a bed of potato). This was served with a glass of Kvas ( a delectably yeasty drink that reminded me of ginger beer). Chef took our wide eyesand wider smiles as a sign of approval, quickly clearing and placing two big plates of dumplings in front of us. One with potato, one with cabbage, and the last with meat. All were packets of heaven especially when exposed to a drizzle of sour cream made in the kitchen. In true Russian style, full meant room for one more. Last, but definitely not least, came a mountain of a cake laced with cream, drowned down with 2 glasses of freshly extracted fruit compote. Overall the meal was a unique peek into a Russian family dinner, and we will be back in bigger numbers!
Absolutely amazing & yummy food. The lady chef/owner was awesome and explained us all the dishes. Do not forget to try the honey cake! So delicious! It is better to go there with a group of people so you have more options to try all the different kind of dishes. Especially when it is getting colder, the restaurant is the place to be for a hearty meal.

Da, da, da, was all I could say when stumbling upon the Russian Kitchen House Cafeteria! Tucked away in the fabric and upholstery souq section of Abu Dhabi, this tiny, five table restaurant struck all the right chords during our first visit. It was late afternoon when my wife, her mother, visiting from the US, and I stopped by to just get a few light bites. We were warmly greeted by the cheery, rosy-cheeked owner and chef and quickly shown to a table. The menu we were given read like a recipe box from grandma. A wide assortment of homey, feel-good, comfort food from all parts of Russia.
We started off by ordering a plate of dumplings filled with deliciously tart cabbage and some with creamy potatoes. We had a large bowl of pickled cucumbers. These were not pickles, but actual pickled slice cucumbers, crisp to the bite. That dish lasted only a couple of minutes. Next up was the cabbage rolls. Tak khorosho! So good! The broth the rolls were soaking in made for a wonderful soup after the rolls were devoured.
The cabbage rolls were delicate, perfectly seasoned, oh so yummy. Our next item was the Chicken Kiev. I am used to getting this dish and the chicken is usually dry and favorless. Not today! We were told that the dish would take about 25 minutes to prepare and it was worth the wait. A browned, crispy breadcrumb outer layer held together a moist, tender piece of tenderized chicken and cheese center that melted in your mouth.
Our final sampler was a traditional dish of baked breads (pies) with meat and potatoes. These alone would be enough to fill one person up. Golden brown and piping hot, the meat filled pies were the table favorite.
The owner sent out two glasses of fruit drinks for us to sample. One was a strawberry juice which had a soft mellow flavor. The second one caught us by surprise. This one was the after-product of simmering down dates, prunes, apricots, and a host f other dried fruits with sugar and water for a day and then chilling it. Meant to help in settling one's belly after a filling meal, the flavor was sweet and pungent. It was a taste to acquire, but a delightful offering from the owner and one that anyone should try.
As noted in the beginning, the spot is tiny, with limited seating, but they do deliver. I would suggest getting up and out of your chair and eat this cooking as it leaves the oven or sauce pan. The restaurant does accept credit cards and cash. It also provides real silverware and plates to eat off instead of plastic or Styrofoam. It is quaintly decorated with numerous fun Russian figurines and tchotchkes, art work and a TV highlighting the latest in Russian news. There is parking in the area, it will just depend on the time of the day you are there whether you will find and spots. No mater, this is a place you want to go to... the sooner, the better! Do svidaniya....

Cute hole in the wall restaurant! The dumplings 🥟 were amazing. The plov was OK. The carrot salad was unreasonably good. Idk how they made carrots so good. The jam pancakes 🥞 were simple but tasty. The fried bread stuffed with meat and cheese was nice. Def worth a visit.

Excellent Russian cuisine. Friendly staff. Dinner for 5 was ready in 90 minutes with free home delivery. Pancakes for 5 people were given as a gift. Thank you. None of my friends understood that it was not cooked by me.
