Lots of food on buffet and on the spot cooking station - my favourites were the pasta, foie gras buratta and South African ribeye. Brunch at the Foundry is just pure perfection. Food and drinks were plenty and served to the table (COVID adaption). <br/><br/>A seriously well thought out selection of cold, hot, starter and mains but boy oh boy don’t forget about the puddings. <br/><br/>Service from the staff was spot on and great to be visited by all tiers of management not only to check up but deliver food or clear plates. That’s always nice to see! <br/><br/>I highly recommend this brunch. 199 for soft and 325 for House package it is well worth it! I had my fair share of oysters 🦪 today so am a very happy man!

We stayed at the southern sun this past weekend. Wonderful weekend away for my husband and I. We were lucky enough to go to the famous The Steaks brunch at the Foundry and what a treat. <br/>Absolutely incredible! <br/>Seafood galore with a poke bar (yes, a poke bar) <br/>A cheese room, where you can pour you’re own wine and wide selection of cheeses. <br/>Fois Grais station (not my favorite - purely personal, but it was incredible to see all the different ways of presenting it) <br/>A margarita bar <br/>Mexican ‘truck’ <br/>Steak station (pick a cut and and grill it to your liking) <br/>Highlights:- <br/>Mini lamb shank and polenta <br/>Duck leg <br/>Dessert station (OMG - worth the wait, but save room, if you’re like me, who tried EVERY single dessert) yes I did. <br/>Staff were friendly and on the ball <br/>To be honest I could ramble on about this brunch, but I’d suggest you go and check it out yourself! Well worth the money and drive!

What a restaurant!!! So far this is one of the top 3 places that I have been to. Foundry has got a wide range of dishes to select from, including Arabic and other international cuisines. The pasta, rosemary roasted chicken, grilled fish, sheesh tawook are some of their dishes that you cannot afford to miss out. The ‘Yummmm Ali’ 😋😋😋 is a must try when it comes down to the desserts section. A cheerful and welcoming staff with great service is what you can expect when you visit ‘The Foundry’. Overall, an amazing experience.🤩🤩

The brunch at the Foundry was above our expectations with various stations from different types of cuisine. The most interesting one was the foie gras station where they served foie gras desserts. Their steaks, as their most famous dishes, we're delicious. We ended up having breakfast there as well the next morning.<br/><br/>As part of the package, they also invited us to the brunch after party at Blu Sky Lounge. Although the brunch at the Foundry was packed with people, unfortunately, the after party was quite empty. Perhaps the hotel could use more marketing focus on this.<br/><br/>All in all, we really enjoyed it and would recommend this to our friends.

Meat did the job!<br/><br/>I took my date to this place and she ordered the caviar which to be honest upset the plastic in my pocket.  Thankfully, all worked out well and I got to use the rubber in my pocket afterwards so it wasn't all bad.<br/><br/>Highlight for me (other than the use of the rubber) of the evening was the large fancy presentation of the caviar, with a bit of ceremony regarding opening of the tin on a large block of ice.  Just as the waiter managed to prize the lid off the tin he accidentally shoved his thumb straight into the middle of it.  He thought he got away with it, but I had to point it out and he was send back to get a new tin.   A lot of drama really for what is just a tin of fish eggs.<br/><br/>Anyway, steak was awesome and staff were super friendly.  Of course, it being Abu Dhabi - service was painfully slow and the restaurant was empty with a lot of bored looking staff just floating around.

We went on a Friday night to celebrate a couple of special occasions, it was a bit quiet and as such we were made most welcome. Coming from Australia we enjoy a nice steak and The Foundry did not disappoint. A surprise entree' of ravioli was sensational, accompanied by a selection of breads and 6 different butters. The main meal was better than expected, steak cooked perfectly, sides were generous and flavoursome and again we had a choice of sauces and salts. Desert was a surprise celebration cake. The service was outstanding, quality of food was very high and we will definitely return in the future.

Went for steak night recently. I think it was Thursday night but dont quote me on that!<br/><br/>The restaurant is lovely, the service is excellent, and the format is very different:<br/><br/>A waiter brings the set menu of 5/6 options for starters, 3 for mains, and a few deserts. You order whatever you want whenever you want for a set price. This price also includes a number of drinks, including some great beers that i havent seen or heard of anywhere else. My girlfriend was on the wine and said this was also excellent.<br/><br/>Towards the end of the meal the Manager came over to the table and asked what we thought. Despite our raving review he still wanted us to give them advice to make the place even better which i think is an attitude not enough places have. <br/><br/>I suggested they open the cheese room as an addition to the dessert menu and the Manager was very open to the idea and said he would take the idea higher up and see what they could do. <br/><br/>Oh and i almost forgot, we ordered the Steak until we could order it no more, and it was the best ive had in Abu Dhabi. <br/><br/>We will be back after Eid for sure.

I visited this restaurant for their breakfast buffet. Nice choices of western and Asian dishes, egg station and I loved their smoothies. I didn't enjoy the juices, not much variety and OJ had been squeezed hours before. Not bad, but there are better choices

Beautiful restaurant located in Southern Sun Hotel on Meena street. I tried their Friday buffet a couple of times and I always enjoyed it and so did my guests . The live cooking specialty stations offering anything from special cuts to desserts are a clear edge over regular city buffets where food is pre prepared in bulk. I highly recommend it

Very bad experience.<br/>Menu was changed no steaks served without prior advice although i called twice once to book once to confirm and 2 different people answered me but noone bothered to tell us. Only 3 main dish items to choose from and they were not tasting good at all!<br/>We practically had to ask to be given bread to start the meal. Bread was not fresh, very hard to chew, reheated.<br/>Food was bad, the meat in the steak sandwich is very hard, the baguette old, the fries cold, the mashed corn dry, the salad no dressing...<br/>The water an unknown brand, the staff are rude, check was given to us while barely having finished the meals as if kicking us out plus the place was completely empty! When we asked the waiter for hand gel or wet wipes she replied just go to the washroom are you too lazy to walk i cant carry you what an impolite response.<br/>First and last time ever at this place would not recommend it

The dishes are of very good quality. Served in a delicious way. We chose the Holland tenderloin, Angus beef tartar and Oven roasted lamb rack. First of all I have to commend The Foundry on their service. From the moment I made my reservation to the day of the brunch, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. <br/><br/>The interiors of the restaurant give it a very sophisticated feel but I think it could do with a bit more light as it was a little dark. I had asked for the floating table which is a table for four surrounded by water. Since we were two couples, this was a perfect and intimate setting as we were away from the crowded food area. <br/><br/>Everything I tried from the spread was delicious! I especially loved the beef carpaccio and tostadas. I tried fois gras for the first time, still not sold on it but did enjoy the chocolate chili one! Being a huge fan of steak, I had really high expectations of the meat here. However, it was a bit of a let down because there was just one station for live steaks and it gets very busy. Every time I ordered, the meat was over cooked. The dessert selection was good and although we didn't have much space after all the food we ate, we sampled a few and really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding.<br/><br/>All in all, it was a great brunch and I had a fantastic time with friends!

My first visit to "The Foundry".. it was completely full and yet the staff managed to arrange a table for us.. great atmosphere and staff! Would definitely recommend to all to try!

I went to The Foundry with a couple of friends to try out a new brunch joint in Abu Dhabi. I found out about this place through Zomato with high recommendation. Its located in the Southern Sun, a south African 4 star hotel chain, in Zahiah. The seating area fits around 20 tables which allows waiters to pay more attention to your table and this rendered an excellent service (friendly and smiling staff). However, the place could use more light given that the shutters are down and there is no outside terrace, I found the place a little dim. Moving to the buffet section, it features different live cooking stations of meat (6 different types), tacos (crab, chicken and beef) chicken tacos were the best, margaritas and cocktails as well as a desert and cheese stations. The buffet is not that big but the food quality was good and especially the meat. Overall, i like the place but for summer time preferably, when its too hot to go outside.

I am not going to write too much, because this is one of the best kept secrets in Abu Dhabi. The more popular it gets, the less chance there will be for me to get a table at the Friday Brunch at the Foundary. <br/>Greeting was very friendly and shown to our floating water lilly table. The concept differs from many other brunches and Executive Sous Chef, Pankaj certainly knew how to look after us. He ensured we were always sampling some of the finest foods on offer. We spent far to much time on the starters including the Fois Gras (try the chocolate and chilli fois gras......amazing, as were the seafood dishes). This restaurant is famous for its steaks, but to be honest, all the stations were brilliant, do not miss the ceviche.<br/>Thats enough, try it....   don't be a snob and reject it because its a 4* hotel, it puts other 5* like the Rosewood and Four Seasons into the shade.....

Not a very busy restaurant and good for a quiet dinner out. A great place to enjoy a steak and glass of wine. Their bread and butter selection is very interesting but the highlight is definitely the meat.  Wouldn't recommend the starters nor desserts.

Abu Dhabi offers such an abundance of Friday brunches that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to choose where to spend your precious weekend afternoons. With the quality of brunches varying drastically throughout the city, there is one brunch that is currently causing quite a stir and it comes from The Foundry at The Southern Sun Hotel.

Went for a Friday brunch here and it's amazing.. it's a kind of giving a fine dining touch to a brunch with main focus on quality and refined dishes.. there is a wide variety to choose from, if u r a seafood lover don't forget to check them.. there is a live steak station to add to the joy. Chef prepares steaks of ur choice to ur cooking preference. Great staff and ambience too. As a suggestion it would be great if the name of dishes are placed near them..

Came here for the Friday brunch and had a great time. It's a smaller, more intimate brunch with far fewer of the big boozy crowds. It's a really great brunch with a focus on quality rather than quantity. There was fresh seafood great steak tartare and meats and very good salads too. Honestly the live stations were great and the ability to sample some of the steaks they have (cooked to taste) were really good. Deserts and cheese were also great. The alcohol selections were also great with a choice of 2 reds and whites, 2 beers and cocktail of the day. Honestly if you want to get away from the big brunches and have a smaller more engaging brunch give it a go!

Had a lovely brunch on Friday, it's a nice place to go on the odd rainy day or when it's too hot to be outside. The mood was relaxed and the soft jazzy music was a nice touch. Their selection is not extensive so you can easily have a taste of all they have, but it's a great offering. The steaks are tiny morsels but very good. If you would like to have a proper steak experience then come on a regular evening and order the Cowboy steak, it is fantastic! Sorry no pics.

Had a Friday brunch there.<br/><br/>Choice was not the main quality but meat was amazing (with several origins). Loved it !!!<br/><br/>Service was good and fast.

AMAZING!!! <br/>This place simplely dose it all. I left this place happier then when I came in. <br/>We didn't originally plan to eat here, it was more of a last resort, not for any other reason other then we hadn't heard about it. <br/>This place is stunning. As we walked in we were greeted by the manager and two host. Quickly seated to any section and table we choose. The manager along with the waiter was very detailed about everything they had and the chief. <br/>The portions were a bit smal but they had some complimentary bites that filled that void. <br/>For starters I orders the lobster bisque which was good. A bit stronger of a taste then I'm used to but none the less delicious. They brought out this very well plated,small platter of individual complementary bread for the three of us and we got to choose between 5 different butters, which one we wanted. Husband went with the garlic herbs, I went with bacon and our friend went with the olive. All were delicious and something new and different. <br/>For our mains<br/>Hubby, stuck to his T-bone steak. Good but could of been better. Came with a side of steamed veggies.<br/>I choose the salmon soup. This was different but VERY delicious. It was a deliciously cooked to perfection slice of salmon on a bed of salad mix with Edemoni in a half a inch of broth. Delicious!!! <br/>Our friend also went with the steak and a side of potato mash, which was delicious. <br/>Both steaks were cooked to perfection. I thought it was cool that they brought out an assortment of knives that we got to choose from for our steaks very unique. <br/>And to finish it off we also got another complimentary dish from the chief featuring all his specialty tastes in one bite. The Foundry steakhouse inside the Southern Sun hotel was without a doubt the best meal of our trip (including the numerous restaurants that we tried in Dubai). The hostess Elana was amazing. She assisted the waiter in serving our table and did a fabolous job. This is a must try restaurant. You will not be disappointed!

We were invited for an office dinner at the foundry and we were to choose from a set menu so I don't know how fair I can be to this place, nevertheless the ambience and the interiors were splendid but I won't be able to say the same about the food. The plating of food as you can see from the pics was pretty but like most of the restaurants with fancy decors and price tags the food lacked taste. Much better than some other expensive fine dining restaurants but nothing that makes us want to come again.

Went for a nice quite dinner and got exactly that, the atmosphere was great, specially went to try their steaks and this place really stands out, ordered a Prime Tenderloin steak and Wagyu striploin, both came as expected and delicious, drinks were awesome too, a Southern Sun Punch and Fruity Buster<br/><br/>Had an amazing time and recommend any steak lover to visit this place at least once

Been eating at the foundry and they have the best steaks I tasted so far. Very friendly staff and open for comment. Price a bit high but the food tastes very good.

I have been to iftar buffet last week and i have to say i was disappointed. I thought the quality of food would be better and the variety would be nice. The menu served showed a lack of understanding to Ramadan traditional foods as well as low quality of the food. Overall i was planning to visit the restaurant again after Ramadan as a steak house, but i don't think i will consider it.

Been there done that (good) brunches in abu dhabi. Most places has miles of food choices wth few amongst that make the rank. This brunch STANDS OUT ! Their fare is significantly different from the copy n paste choices of most hotel brunches. Not too many varieties, but those they have are sufficiently satisfying. Great staff. Always "there" when you need them. A must try for all AUH 'brunchers'.

I loved this place. The staff were fantastic.The food was beautifully presented and delicious. When I arrived it was a bit quiet but this was made up by the lovely staff and their welcoming presence.Excellent service. Charming and great value. Thank you

Came here for lunch where they have a nice buffet with international choices. Loved there big collection of desserts and salads though. I should try them for breakfast. I am not a big fan of buffets but this place impressed me.

Came here for lunch and had the buffet. Using the entertainer we got 2 for 1. The salad and cold meze selection is definitely the best part of the buffet. The decoration is outstanding, feel I need to come back in the evening to fully appreciate it properly. The hot food was a bit of a let down, it seemed to be standing for too long and we were there when it opened. The manager and staff are fantastic and I will be back.

Nice buffet lunch at foundry,the best part was the restaurant set up. Chairs were setup in flower shape with water surrounding it. In food I liked the palak murgh and prawn fry with chili sauce. The only concern was the number of buffet items, comparing to other hotels very few options.

I finally got to visit the foundry as a very late valentines dinner with my wife. Needless to say, it doesn't disappoint. <br/><br/>I stared off with the Lobster Bisque soup and it was rich. It is a good size portion but I wouldn't have been able to finish it if it was bigger. It has an almost gravy feel to it (which coming from the US is a good thing). <br/><br/>For our mains we both got the 300gm Jack's Creek Purebred Wagyu grain fed Striploin steak. I had the steak fries and the signature sauce which I have to say that the steak fries are huge and delicious. Crispy outside and a soft middle. I would get those again. <br/>My wife had the organic salad which wasn't anything special. <br/><br/>By this time we were so stuffed that we couldn't order dessert but the menu looked great so we will have to come back and take a look. <br/><br/>If you like steak and want to pick the type of wood handled steak knife you want to use then this is the place for you. <br/><br/>On a side note, they also brought us out a sample of this mashed potato and chives that was the consistency of mousse. It was like a savory dessert in itself. Also I forgot to mention that they bring out a "butter" bar and you can pick what flavor of butter you want for your bread. I had a beef bacon flavor and my wife had the garlic and herb. They were incredible.

I'd like to say the only reason I decided to try this restaurant was because of the single review so far. Everything was described so beautifully and elaborately that I could see myself there. Loved the ambience and coziness The Foundry has to offer, with sliding doors that you could have a booth of your own. I was quite impressed with the different kinds of butter they offered with three kinds of bread - we had the bacon butter, sun dried tomato butter and spicy Cajun! Then came a complimentary fish dish with quail egg which was beautifully presented. For the mains, we opted for the New York steak with the Signature Steak Sauce and hand cut fries and the tortellini pasta. Although the pasta (being vegetarian) was slightly on the pricey side, the taste was exquisite. The cream, mushrooms, stuffed pasta and rocca leaves all came together quite well. I also enjoyed my steak that I ate with specially hand crafted knives, which is quite a nice touch. The friendly manager also let us know that they could have names engraved on the knife for their frequent customers, so you always use your own knife! How is that for special! The wine list is quite extensive as well. We ended the meal with the chocolate fondant - dark chocolate cake with oozing chocolate centers served with vanilla bean ice cream - yum-mo! They also gave complimentary vanilla ice-cream to my chatty two year old, who was beaming. All in all, quite high end but a fab experience; will be back for a special night!

Normally I would just comment on the food but everything from the decor to the service provided was spectacular.<br/><br/>The menu provides you with an array of appetizers at the start followed by the steaks of different but prominent origin. They also provide you with lamb, poultry or seafood options if steak isn't on the mind which is then followed by sweet and lastly, an extensive wine menu.<br/><br/>I ordered the USDA Prime Black Angus 400g T-bone (medium rare) with Madagascar peppercorn sauce and side orders of truffle mash and organic salad whilst my companion that evening had the John Stone 300g Striploin (medium) with bernaise sauce and a side order of roasted root vegetables.<br/><br/>As we waited for our order we were  presented with and asked to choose from a variety of steak knives (made in France) all with their own unique handle which that in itself was pretty unique. Shortly thereafter we were served a complimentary appetizer from the chef; Brulee'd Fois Gras. It was sweet and very rich, not something id normally order but it was a very positive taste experience. We then were bombarded by an assortment of breads and butters. SIX different flavours of butters (homemade) that you could lather on their mini brown roll, mini white baguette or mini sundried tomatoe foccacia. All were fantastic to say the least. Last but not least, the steaks which they serve with their very own grain mustard (3 different kinds). Visible top restaurant quality grill marks criss-crossing the steaks on both our plates, the pleasant char smell that emanates from quality cooked meat and both cooked to our order with perfection made both of us very happy but made even happier with the sauces of choice.<br/><br/>No sweets but thatl be for next time.<br/><br/>All in all, the food was surprisingly astounding. The service was impeccable with special mention to Adil our waiter for the evening, the restaurant manager and our chef Stefano from Mauritius. This is probably the best steak restaurant experience I have had yet, in Abu Dhabi.<br/><br/>Oh and fyi, they won the best steak in town award for this year 2014 so dont just take my word for it.<br/><br/>2nd visit - <br/><br/>Ordered a starter this time. Got the frito Misto with 12 year old balsamic glaze and garlic aoli. The fried assortment of fish was good but not spectacular. Very light on the garlic for the aoli to. The balsamic glaze however was superb. Syrupy almost and not as acidic like normal vinegar could get. Definately the highlight of this dish.<br/><br/>We were also served a complimentary dish which consisted of butter squash ice cream with turkey bacon. Ice cream for starter's haha, lovedit.<br/><br/>Steak was the 300g john stone grass fed striploin, lovely. Tried the signature steak sauce and blue cheese sauce but still vote in favour of the Madagascar perppercorn and bernaise sauce at this establishment. Potato gratin was the choice of side and the combination of thinly sliced baked potato with a layer of aged cheddar on top made this a worthy side-kick to the top-quality steak served.<br/><br/>The chocolate fondant that came soon after was a myriad of textures and temperatures. Firm and crisp chocolate cake on the outside with warm molten chocolate goodness on the inside all lightened with their homemade vanilla bean ice cream. Beauty of a dessert. <br/><br/>Service as always was excellent.
