After craving for the typical ghee rice and beef curry, we winded up at Sumaya Restaurant. This is a small, cozy restaurant behind Old Sharjah cinema area. This restaurant is hidden away from the main road yet visible if you walk in between the shops. Dont expect any great interior or stylised seating here. If you are upto try a mouth watering spicy beef curry this the place for you. The portion size was fairly good enough for one person (especially me!). We had visited during lunch time, which means the place was full but not crowded enough for suffocation. I noticed that many had ordered the ghee rice and beef curry combo. Other than that, they also have fish biriyani, ghee rice with prawns masala and so on. Once the food was set in front of us, i noticed how glistening the Ghee rice was.. soo yumm!! The beef curry was spicy and trust me when i say this, if you are from Kerala you will definitely miss the place. I really liked the fact that unintentionally while using my hand to eat, i tent to lift my wrist up to avoid touching the table. Noticing this, without a word they came and placed a paper towel below my wrist to keep me comfortable. The food was quite hearty at low cost. I would rate the ghee rice at ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and the beef curry at ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

The .5 less on the rating is for the traffic to Sharjah, the struggle to find a parking and difficulty in locating the place . This restaurant is famous for it's authentic Kerala Ghee Rice and Beef Curry (Neychorum Pothirachiyum). Not family friendly. Go single order directly without experimenting with the menu and enjoy unlimited Ghee Rice refills if you are not full with the first serving.

if you are looking for a flashback to one of those kerala mehandi night neychor and beef. this is the place. too good. you woudnt get it anywhere else.

This small eatery did take me aback with the delicious stuff they had to offer.! A quaint old hotel which we would picture in kerala. Few tables and chairs. Neatly arranged. With a selected menu of Malabar delicacies they had to offer. My husband & his friends have been visiting this place a lot of times .. So he suggested that we should go for the ghee rice & beef curry... Okay. Now you must think. "Oh it's just a ghee rice & beef curry. You get it everywhere in UAE. What's so special about it" I'm sure Malayali Muslims have a very very special place in their heart for this combo. If you hail from ernakulam-alwaye. You would be taken back to the nostalgic events of mehendi nights & other occasions in households wherein Neychor & beef holds a special position..! A wedding household is incomplete with Neychor & beef. And my friends.. The food they served did extreme justice to what I've tasted before. In our household. Made by my mom. Mother in law & grandmother. They served exactly the same curry. Same tasting rice. I was nostalgic all the time..! The beef curry. Speciality is the spice mix. Dry roasted coriander & red chilli powder plays a special role in this curry. Which makes it look reddish brown in colour. Crucial part in this curry is that. If you over roast the spice mix a second or two. It'll burn & change the taste of the whole dish. That's the trickiest part.
I have to say. This tastes exactly the same like how we prepare it traditionally ! So happy to have found a place that serves good food in good hygienic surroundings even though it's located in a dingy street.& would definitely go unnoticed. Staff were friendly & whenever I hit the hunger pangs for naatile neychor & beef. I know where to come ! And oh no photos at all as I was busy indulging !😃
