When it comes to Indian, vegetarian food, you hardly find any restaurants that cook just like our mothers. Food so satiating, that through our tummies, they find a way to our hearts. I recently discovered such a gem in the streets of Karama, all thanks to Hyper Links Media for the invite.
The ambiance was pretty, and when you enter, on your right, the chaat corner welcomes you. Go staright ahead, and you see some mouthwatering sweets, and chefs preparing your food along with fresh juices. Their seating area is huge which can accommodate a good number of people. The staff were very friendly and polite, and the wide variety menu compels you to order almost everything.
We ordered the carrot and apple juice, jaljeera, mix platter, aloo chana chaat, dahi batata puri, paneer bhurji, vegetable Manchurian gravy, phudina butter naan, garlic butter naan, Schezwan fried rice, ras malai, kulfi falooda and gajar ka halwa.
Carrot and apple juice - served in a huge glass, this juice was refreshing and amazing. A fine blend of the mentioned two ingredients, this drink was just right in consistency and sweet.
Jaljeera - tongue tingling all thanks to its zesty nature. Served with some boondi on the top, I loved this flavourful drink.
Mix platter - consisting pieces of paneer tikka, hara bhara kebab, mushrooms, veg sheekh kebab, cauliflower and pineapple. This platter was too good to share, and every item served was delicious in its own way. The paneer tikka was soft, and the orange marination on the paneer was mildly spicy and full of flavours. Hara bhara kebab had a subtle crispy outer later, being gooey inside, and was flavourful. The tiny, adorable mushrooms were so tasty and delectable, we wish they added more of them on the platter. Veg sheekh kebabs were also very yummy, as they were soft, featured a smooth texture and were mildly spicy. The huge chunks of cauliflower petals were reasonably soft, and the marination was outstanding. The moderately soft pineapples were sweet on the inside.
Aloo chana chaat - the inviting looks of this dish which arrived in ample quantity, was absolutely appetizing. Soft & well-made black chana and cubes of potato, were tossed in green chutney, onions, tomatoes, and were topped with sev. All the ingredients were well - balanced, and this dish was spicy, flavourful, and the sev provided a crunchy kick.
Dahi bata puri - six soft puris, with a filling of spiced mashed potato, black chana, sprouts and green chutney, were topped with generous amount of thick, and creamy yogurt, along with some fresh coriander, shavings of carrot, and crunchy sev. This dish was toothsome, flavoursome and lovely.
Paneer bhurji - one of my favourite dishes, this paneer bhurji was excellent. Grated paneer, cooked well with sufficient amount of spices and necessary ingredients, was just like a home cooked dish. It was mildly spicy and flavoursome. Definitely a must try.
Vegetable Manchurian gravy - the brown gravy was just right in consistency, and was perfectly made with its essential condiments and moderate spices, to provide our palates with a flavourful side. The oval Manchurian chunks were soft and well - cooked with the gravy, however, those chunks were a little on the salty side.
Schezwan fried rice - the orange rice was tossed with fresh veggies, was freshly prepared, cooked to perfection with adequate amount of spices & schezwan sauce, and was full of flavours and mildly spicy.
Garlic butter naan and phudina butter naan - both these naans were extremely scrumptious. They had a decent spread of butter on them, with just the right amount of garlic and mint respectively. They were soft, warm, slightly crispy and absolutely perfect. Definitely recommended!
We enjoyed the rice and the naans so much, that we actually had some of them without any gravy!
Ras malai - enriched with rich saffron, the milk was thin in consistency and satisfactory. The huge and thick patties of ras malai were soft and had a smooth texture. This dessert was fairly sweet.
Kulfi falooda - one of my favourites, and served in a glass, this dessert was very pleasing. Topped with dry fruits and thin strings of sev, the kulfi resting under the said ingredients was majestic and excellent. We loved its creaminess. Definitely recommended!
Gajar ka halwa - made so perfectly, with reasonable amount of sweetness, this carrot halwa was magical and delightful. Moist and lush, we were glad that it was not overloaded with ghee.
Thank you for hosting us Sukh Sagar team. We are definitely coming back to try other items on the menu soon.
