Spill the bean is the kind of place you go to remember that you are a unique, cerebral human being. It's the sort of place where you expect to see a toddler run laughing through the communal seats while in the background one of the owner's hums to herself as she tastes a new blend of coffee and then makes the minutest of changes to its water/milk ratio, because every cup is worth it, every patron, is worth it. At the same time you might find the other owner hotly explaining how the best coffee, like the best people, is borne from extreme pressure. This is a mom and pop store with a twist. Its rebellious without being cliche. Its iconic without buying into hype. Even the sophisticated tiles and doors don't alienate you. Its the sort of place that I would love to sit and people watch, as I write a freelance op-ed column. Or go to for a casual end of first date cuppa.

It's such a cosy and cool place. The second you enter you are under the charm of the winged goat. YES! THE...WINGED...GOAT! :-) it's so cool! And they have the coolest variety of coffees...many I've never tasted or seen before. Delicious! Definitely worth going there!

Apart from the stellar management team that actually take the time to say "hello" and check up on you without being intrusive, introduce you to their endless delicious meals behind the counter, speak about the origin of coffees and the best blend to suit your fix, and show my friend's little daughter around the play area - the cafe is one of a kind in Dubai. Not to mention, the best Pumpkin & Carrot Spiced Cake I have ever sunk my teeth into. Quadruple thumbs up!
