Happy eating
For some reason the Masgouf fish didn’t taste as fresh or as crispy on the skin as I would have liked and when compared to other Iraqi restaurants including the Jumeirah outlet
The kebabs, though , were outstanding . The pista kabab was so fresh and with a slight crunch from being well cooked. The yoghurt kabab is always great.
It’s non pretentious and good food. But I think the Jumeirah joint is better
We were just blown away by the hospitality of this place!
As soon as we were seated they served us complementary lentil soup! We ordered their special salad and the mix grill. Everything was delicious. They again gave us complementary dessert and tea!
Was a great night out! Thank you!
Iraqi cuisine is somewhat different from the typical Levantine fare found in the UAE. For one, they have elaborate fish dishes, the Masgouf being the most popular. The fish used is generally a large, big boned river fish from the carp family (similar to the Rui in Bangladesh, but not the same). Its burnt over an open fire spit, with the fish oil providing part of the fuel. (River fish is extremely rare in Dubai restaurants, and I am sure it is imported by air freight)The result is a smoky, chunky fish, which disguises some of the inherent muddy taste of fishes from the carp family. The fish at Samad Iraqi was good, but not as good as I was hoping it would be (then again I am a seafood snob of Bengali heritage). And one downside for small parties is that you can only have a minimum of 2-3kg which is good enough for 6-8 people. Coming to the rest of the dishes, the standout was this adorable salad, with fresh cut avocado, chewy date pieces, orange slices, pomegranate, and barley on to; has to rank among the top 5 salads I have ever had in Dubai. The Iraqi tea was good as well as the gloriously unhealthy complimentary dessert, which was basically caramel smashed with flour and ghee (tasted similar to Rajasthani Churma)The kababs and lentil soup were good. All in all, a pricey but very decent introduction to Iraqi cuisine, you will get your money's worth if going as a group of 5-6 adults.
Famous for their fish. I tried the 1.5 kg sea bass. It was one of the best fish eaten. Lovely and delicious. Spexially in cool breeze wind love the atmosphere. They serve u warm big afghan type bread. Staff was attentive.

Very delicious meat with Bamya. Very big portions the amount of the food is enough for 2 or even 3
The price is very decent as they offer free soup, pickles
Also very tasty tea in the end (free) as much as you want
I really like the taste but service could be better
I will cone back soon with family
One of my favorite spots. I love this location and my all-time favorite at this restaurant is the tea they serve in the small glass cups. I can drink like 10 glasses of these tea it’s just so yummy. The food is also good, they serve this complementary soup which I am not a big fan. I usually get the mixed grill and I love how tender and juicy the meats are and the spices that make the flavor just perfect.
I highly recommend this restaurant as it is one of the best Lebanese restaurant in Dubai as well for its very friendly staff , professional service, delicious food, they make my evening wonderful and exceptional ,a big compliment to the manager of the restaurant and all the kind staff.
The area is known for good Middle Eastern food. I have tried them all, I guess. This is my favourite. They have great dishes. They have this brilliant way of presenting it. And the ambiance is best of them all. The only issue is that you will find that parking is a bit of an issue. I recommend the garlic mayo thing (don't know the actual name) and the grill. Desserts are brilliant too. The serve this coffee, its a dream for coffee lovers. Strong and flavourful. And its complimentary.
This is a great restaurant with a very nice ambiance and vibe
I love the food here especially the fish they have, you can call them in and order it earlier its cooked on charcoal and it tastes amazing as well as the oven is open with a glass wall so you can see your fish is cooked.
i would recommend this restaurant to everyone, its a must to visit and once done with the food they have this black tea at the end which is the perfect after such a good meal. its a perfect experience to have once
We tried this place when we on a quest to finding the perfect place for an amazing meal ...and it was truly amazing indeed..everything from soft and tender kebabs to great pricing and service and they also pamper us with complementary sweets and tea .... would totally recommend this place
I just love this restaurant. I come all the way from Sweden every year just for there food. Thank you for been so amazing and God bless you all whom works there
Ordered Dishes :
Main courses : Patcheh , Dolma , Maqlooba meat
Side dishes : Arabic Salad , Soap
Drinks : Laban Airan
Quality / Taste : One of my preferable Iraqi restaurants in UAE , the food is fresh and tasty , the place is classy and the customers too.
You can enjoy your meal in the right place if you visit Samad Al Iraqi Restaurant .
Quantity : The quantity of the food reflects the generosity of the Iraqi people. Quantity is really enough if we compare to what we paid.
Price : Approximately 100 Dh’s / Person
We came here for Iftar during Ramadan. I'm always for affordable dining, but today we made a little exception as it was an Iftar outing with the girls. And we weren't disappointed!
Since we hadn't made reservations for the buffet we had to head upstairs for the Ala carte dining. We were a bit disappointed but we didn't realize we were in for a treat. We got complimentary juices, soup, and mezze platters as well as generous portions of the freshest, most delicious bread I have ever eaten.
For the four of us we ordered a mixed grill platter (Kaibab platter with different meats) and a seafood platter. We ate to our fill and still had leftovers that we packed. The portions are very generous and the meats succulent. Definitely a very unique experience that I enjoyed a lot.
Even though it was a bit pricey I'd still say it was value for money. I would definitely go again.
Loved it, everything was perfect! Amazing food! The quality and the quantity both are perfect. Enjoyed the ambiance, background music, hospitality. 👍🏻
I went to this branch 3 times and it is just amazing, I ordered the lamp shoulder and the veraity of rice options with the softness of the meat just makes it perfect.
I tried the other branch. In terms of taste it's the same. In terms of service without a doubt the Muraqabt branch is better.
The manager and staff are really friendly on both branches, however, still you feel more spoiled at the Murraqabat branch.
Had lunch today with my friend, one of my friend reccomend this place , the food is fantastic ! The staff very friendly, and endless tea it's really refreshing, The tea guy I do t know his name but he is beyond of ye 5star hotel hospitality! definitely coming back,
Went here for a business lunch - We ordered watermelon juice, a mango guava strawberry mocktail, strawberry milkshake, chocolate milkshake, a mixed grill, a traditional grilled fish dish which I didn't get the name of, plus the staples of hummus, mutabbal and fattoush. There was also this amazing rocca salad.
I couldn't get pictures of everything, but the food was good, the ambience was beautiful, and the service was very quick. I only found out later that they offer valet parking.
While the food was good, the fish was kind of bland for me. I'm not familiar with Iraqi food so can't comment. One item that stood out was their kunafa. I would go back for that alone.
Very good authentic Iraqi food. Staff very friendly and efficient. Portions are big and prices reasonable. Parking is a bit of a problem. But I will be back for sure.
I often wonder why this restaurant has such a low rating considering that the food they serve is really great. I have been here on numerous occasions, breakfast lunch and dinner.
Maybe the food is expensive which is why the rating is low.
Standard arabic food, for me personally the speciality is the Samad al iraqi hammus, lamb chops, lamb kebab in yoghurt, lamb shoulder.
The best is the complimentary sweet they serve after the meals, sweet made of rich butter, sesame seed paste and nuts.
The place is always crowded and almost always the crowd is entirely arab.
The place maybe slighlty over priced, but i still do like the place. It's a great place for family get togethers. The staff is ever friendly and courteous.
Kebabs and fish are solid. Nice, fresh bread. Iraqi tea served here is, in my opinion, the best tea of any type in Dubai. Sometimes I go just for a cup of tea.
It's one of the first Iraqi rest in DxB.
I have to admit, it's the 100 times much better that it's new branch in Jumeirah..
Staff are friendly, nice food, and nice environment.
Despite, I have never been there since my unpleasant experience with the Jumeirah branch, still this one is the better brother
Amazing and very tasty food... suggest the mixed grill, the lamb kebab is extremely tender, nice also the bread and pomegrate salad... iraqi tea is a must to try, will be back very soon... well done to the service staff also
Its an old place with great decor. The complimentary soup is great start. Ordered their Mix Grill
Their Magsor Fish is good.
Though its pricey but you got to pay to eat good.
Passing bye this restaurant daily think to eat iraqi food ,i tried mix grill ,taste was good as fresh and quality, the problem coming in the restaurant is parking .
Very nice service, especially the guy serving the tea. Their kofta with tomato is superb and kebab really nice as well. Highly recommended if you want to eat arabic food.
One of the good Iraqi restaurant but not number one
Maskouf is great Iraqi dish on Samad restaurant (but need to be improved)
Location is ok but parking may be a little problem but there is valet parking and they will help u

Review: I like how this restaurant offers some international dishes so there is something for everyone. Usually I like to try the Arabic dishes but I was looking for some delivery items that I can enjoy at home and the international dishes caught my eyes.
The Chicken Corden bleu was cooked beautifully and even though I had this item delivered, the quality of food was still good.
The penne arabiata's sauce was perfect and the pasta was cooked all the way through.
Rating: 3.5/5
Order: Chicken Corden bleu - 64DHS, penne arabiata - 59DHS, chicken shawarma - 50DHS
Pricing: A little high for some of the items served here comparing to other places serving the same thing.
Service: The food arrived at my place very quick.
Ambiance: N/A, got delivery.
Great ambience and good food.
They serve complimentary lentil soup for starters. It was thick and yummy.
Tried their Iraqi mix grill and seafood platter for main course. It was good. Fattoush was the star! The best i ever had in dubai. Loved the flavours.
Oh god , I'm so stuffed it feels like I've just visited my grandmother back home ;)
Everything on the menu was larger than life and finger licking good. Right down from the lentil soup , the salad , the pickled veggies to the watermelon and cheese salad , and Qaleya tashrib and the digestive Arabic tea.
The soup was like Indian homemade yellow dal's tastier version. The vegetable salad was so fresh, it seemed as if they just plucked it from a hidden farm inside. I've never had a watermelon so watery and so sweet ! And the lamb... uff it fell off the bone with a touch of the fork and melted in my mouth with that delectable saffron rice and that gigantic roti. The tea was a shot of strong black tea with tons of sugar to either digest the whole meal or add to the guilt of gluttony. I'm not complaining :)
A great iraqi food experience.
Order the masgoof fish in advance as it takes over 1 hour. A fish is good cor 4 to 6 pax.
Great food and great quality.
The decoration is very nice.

If you crave for authentic Iraqi food with decent ambience this is the place , to get her its tedious the traffic is really bad , luckily they have ballet parking . The interiors are really great many ancient Iraqi artifacts and collectibles are there . The washroom is also done really well , they have done and upstairs seating area.
This place is quite old but they have , maintained it really well .
We came here with family , they served us complimentary soup and salad first , then we ordered the cold mezza . For starters we orders stuffed vine leaves, tomatoes and zucchini it was delicious just it was little sour from the tomato pulp but I really loved it only thing is I love those little warm , butbthese were cold appetizers.
For main course we orders fish , grilled to perfection . Iraqi rice with mutton , with was served with a baked beans curry and another salsa , the lamb was yum. The other main course was the mixed grill , Iraqi kabaabs are different from Lebanese not so juicy .
So end up our dinner we had tea too. The service is great food is also decent . Pricing and portion size is fair enough .
A restaurant serving Iraqi cuisine with nice ambiance and architecture.
We ordered grilled fish, mix grill and stuffed chicken with rice.
Everything had a nice flavor especially the grilled meat.
The rice was very nice with nuts and vermicelli.
Fish was well cooked.
Very good service and quantity.
We went to this place in a group of 8, the reason I'm mentioning it is because this place is so generous which is something not too common in Dubai. Each person got a lentil soup before the meals and tea afterwords, yes for free.
The bread they serve with the food arrive hot and tastes amazing.
We ordered al maskouf or something it's their specialty. Which is a river fish grilled on charcoal with their own spices. The fish is really big so can feed like 5 people and it tastes really good.
We also ordered a main dish "maklouba" was average I'd say.
And mixed grills were again average the meat didn't taste great.
So I would advise taking their specialty if you're in a group of course.
Having tried their food a week ago for the first time, I decided to get a takeaway today. The smell of their freshly baked bread filled my car and was torture for me especially since I avoid carbs! The salad and mixed grill was delish!
Samad is one of the best restaurants I've been to here in Dubai.. whenever I feel down or depressed, Samad is my solution. The ambience, service, music and food are so great. Sometimes the food would be a little but below the usual standards but that would be during busy weekends. I am going there now!!
Samad is one of the best Iraqi restaurants in UAE, i've been eating here regularly for almost 9 years, a must to try dish is "Al Masgouf" fish, this traditional Iraqi dish is made from special type of river fish, that is butterflied and skewered around wood fire. One fish is good for 3-4 person, it takes 1 hour to be ready from the time of order, so you may call pre arrival and they will start working on it. It was amazing, juicy and delicious
We were visiting to celebrate my parents anniversary and I must say it was a good experience. Our host hassan suggested some good options as we mentioned we were indians (we love spices and our masaledaar foods). Our starters started with lentil soup given by them with salad and avocado juice and our main course was their specialty homous, grilled chicken with rice, shawarma with rice, helwayooh ended by ice cream with nuts.
Indeed a lovely choice for the evening.
You will have to come here several time to taste all their dishes an Iraqi restaurant with a nice ambience very good service very tasty food. No complaints😊
After loving the Iraqi kebabs back in Kuwait, we decided to try the kebabs here, in anticipation that it will tingle our taste buds just like in the past. Due to utter laziness of the family, we decided a home delivery! The first thing that impressed me was their sheer size of our order - the packaging looked triple the quantity. On opening up, I have got to confess it was such a neat home delivery packaging. Every single item packed in such a way that it would not fall, drip, tilt and whatever it would be...We ordered the hommous, baba ganoush, which was very tasty, smooth and flavorful and the Haloumi cheese salad was too watery as the cheese had a bit of smell to it and the avocado added to it was squishy, not recommended. The mains ordered was the Iraqi mixed grill and meat shawarma sandwiches - which was amazing! Will definitely visit the restaurant to eat this again. The grill had a mixture of lamb, chicken and chops as well. Meats were all cooked very well and tender. All the different meats, had different kind of marination. The breads that came with it, were fresh and a different types. Salads were a lot and very fresh.
Im a big fan of Iraqi food and Samad resturant gave me excellent experience about how the food taste look like. My family liked it to the bone of heart if i can say that. Two amazing deshes i will recommend to each visitor. One is the fantastic Ghosi Meat and other one is mix iraqi grill. U will never regret coming to this resturant if u r looking for tasty food.
Heard a lot about this place. Decided to come here for dinner. The place looks beautiful from outside and the interiors are good too.
We were served lentil soup with lemon. This was nice but I really missed the crackers these restaurants usually serve.
For the starters we decided to have drinks.
1. Fruit Cocktail - Really good!
2. Watermelon - Pretty good.
3. Pomegranate - Pretty alright.
4. Avocado Milkshake - Very bad. Not really nice.
For the main course we had the 1kg with all its varieties of meats. Chicken and Mutton. This was one of the BEST I've had. It's better than Aroos Damascus in my opinion too.
The bread and the others were alright, not so great.
They don't have garlic paste to my surprise and the service wasn't very pleasing but the servers tried their best!
We were served Iraqi tea at the end which I really liked.
Would like to come again.
Giving it a 3.5/5
Tasty food with reasonable prices
Soup, appetizers traditional iraqi food & iraqi tea
Friendly staff with beautiful interior design
Love this restaurant
Best Iraqi restaurant in town
Must try - fish grill -Masghoof (bit expensive)
Dining- Luxurious and spacious interiors with 2 floors and outdoor seating
Helpful staff
The best hammous and black tea is recommeded
Great place with great ambiance and fantastic Iraqi food. Tried several plates and they did not fail me. Sure some times their rice is not on par with what my mom makes but hey, who can?
As far as iraqi cuisine goes they covered all grounds, the sea food, the main courses, the grills, the salads and the soup! The tea and even the hospitality. Love how they serve a bowl of soup and iraqi bread on every table for every person. I definitely recommend the maskouf fish which in my opinion is the best thing they have to offer, the dulaymiyah (rice with bread and meat all soaked in meat broth, biryani, the iraqi kabab and if you want a late night meal....the meat shawarma!
After a heavy satisfying meal with huge portions (cheesecake factory kinda portions!) You can always go for a cup of iraqi tea on the house, you can always ask for refills! :D im not a fan of iraqi desserts though so I did not really bother with their menu from that aspect.
Great family restaurant overall and very nice place for friday brunch, make sure you show up ahead of time because it gets packed and they do not take reservations, would be nice if they can offer valet parking though
What an amazing place. Went for lunch and it was excellent. Whatever we ordered tasted good and presentation was really nice.
Only make sure not to sit outside during afternoon if you are ordering fish item as you can attract lots of flies.
Overall excellent place and loved it.
If you are looking for traditional Iraqi Cuisine, this is the place to be. Personally, I prefer this place in Muraqabat even more than the brand new one in Jumeirah as it has a lot of memory. They are very generous with the menu items, free soups, free salad and free Iraqi tea when you finish eating. The food is tasty and full of flavor. One of my favorite in Dubai.
Tasty & good quality Iraqi food. Neat, silent with beautiful Interior design. Soups, appetizers, grilled & skewered lamb & chicken all r really good. Only very bad memories with 1 staff here. Anyway, They have Very special Iraqi type fish kabab called Maskouf, it's very Smokey & tasty & goes great with hot Iraqi bread, salad, motabbal (baba ghanoush) & fattoush, BUT IT'S NOT RECOMMENDED TO INDIAN PEOPLE AS IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY SPICE OR MASALA, JUST LIME JUICE & SALT. They call it Gattan fish, but in fact it's imported Thai-Myanmar origin frozen Rohu fish, but tasty for Iraqis & many Non-Indians including me.
Superb Iraqi grub. The meat is as tender as it can get, just melts in your mouth. The service makes you feel like a king. The Kunafa is too big for your appetite but then the taste will ensure you keep digging.
Ok the food here is delicious seriously good. Just try if you can to go on a weekday as it gets ridiculously crowded which ruins your experience. They need more staff I believe to keep up with everyone. It was my first time in an Iraqi restaurant and I must say probably won't be my last. They have a lot of options so it keeps you coming back to try more. Since I came with the family I tried a lot. Their fish is really popular and was succulent, but I am a huge lamb fan so of course I had to check for tenderness and they did not disappoint.
All in all good place and nice environment and nice people also of course.
I went there for Maskouf. However, I was told it will be so big in size and will need 4 to 5 people to eat it, and we were only 2 and it will take 1 hour to be ready, so I took sea bream grilled instead. And was nice and good and enjoy it, and the dish looking was super nice. They offered free salad and free soup which was a good start. The bread they offer is definitely very nice and the free tea after food is fantastic.
The only problem with them that the food is overpriced and they need to think about it twice if they want people like me to revisit them again. I do not regret the visit but doubt the revisit.
Lovely place for dinner outing , delicious Iraqi cuisine . In winters they serve you hot lentil and lemon soup , crispy pita bread , salad and pickle even before you order food :) I loved their shawarma plate and tea to wash down all the yummy cuisine . In summers inside seating is preferred but if you want to enjoy the cuisine then winters is the best option to visit .
Wawooo , a good iraqi resturant serving the real iraqi food starting with breakfast to the dinner menu , having the good famous maskouf fish , recommend to try it and you will find me there having my best iraqi tea
This place is good arabic gourmet food. .. quality is high.. ambience is royal.. they treat each customer in a royal customer. . Thumbs-up. ..
Our quest for authentic Arabic food brought us to Samad Al iraqi. As soon I entered, I knew i was about to have a good time. everything about the place reflects the middle east. The decor, the servers, everything authentic.
We first began with the dal soup and some khaboos. We then ordered hummus, tabouleh and fatoosh. They were absolutely yum. I dont like my greens but i loved these salad. The hummus was so good, I ate 2.
Next, i highly recommend the mutton kebabs and the Iraqi grill platter. Just bliss. The meat is succulent and cooked to perfection. We ordered the juice too and it was good. Do not order the laban, the lassi of the gulf, it tasted very off.
Samad is the place you take people if you want to try Iraqi cuisine in a nice ambience. As per my other review, Muskoof is the restaurant if you only want masgoof (albeit a touch ghetto rather than sophisticated), but Samad is a great all-rounder and is more suitable for business colleagues or guests you want to impress.
Soup and Salad are part of the deal, and then you order the mains (I would suggested skipping the unnecessary appetizers as the portions are large).
Popular items include Iraqi Kebabs (ultra crumbly, fatty kebabs so be warned if you don't like grease) and of course the masgoof (charcoal slow cooked fish)which always impresses. Be sure to order your masgoof in advance of going to the restaurant. The one item they particularly excel at is the Qozi, which is a cooked, succulent lamb, served on a bed of variety rice along with a side of an Iraqi marga (curry/casserole type of dish like beans/okra etc).
As with all Iraqi restaurants, you finish off with the famous Iraqi Chai, which is a black brewed tea that's a delicious end to the meal, and it comes with sugar unless specified by the customer.
The Jumeirah branch is more upmarket, and has fantastic traditional décor, and the murraqabat branch is equally good albeit older. Both are consistent in their output.
Had an official lunch with clients.. good food knows the chef so got lil preference.. their starters are fresh and had their famous fish grill and their mix grilll .. good ambience .. seating overall good experience
The way my food buddy rated this Iraqi cuisine made me nosy about the food they serve. Upon entering, it feels like in a real iraqi restaurant (never been though, as seen on pictures). The staff led us to a comfortable quiet place. It was very exciting for me as it was the first time (as always) it was introduced to me. I had to churned slowly to savor the taste of the meat and gave me satisfied tummy. The first time trying dolma, had to sliced them and ate what was inside though i knew it had to take a bite the whole thing. It was palatable indeed.
Stop by totally by accident and had the best fish ever the picture is not showing the authenticity of fire girl but believe me truly amazing experience and food! Kudos to the amazing FOH team!
Amazing place to have lunch or early dinner .
Honestly all the menu is great . I loved the Tibsi with rice.
Great service, amazing Tea .
For quick bite , order the shawarma sandwich it is much different than the Lebanese or Syrian one .
I would recommend it for anyone.
The price is very good as well .
Visited the place a few months ago ... As it's one of the most unique places for authentic Iraqi food ... And always come back for one main dish in their menu!
The Maskouf - an open cut fish grilled & spiced with salt, pepper and tamarind!
A massive 1 kg fish ... which is enough for 10 people. It takes 45 min so plan your orders / timings accordingly, but it will be worth the wait!
Excellent food with special iraqi fish with great taste, the soup, the grills and the bread was also good though the price is on the higher side but worth.........
I came back here after publically proclaiming (in an earlier review) that the newer Jumeirah-2 off-shoot of this upmarket Iraqi restaurant is bigger, better. It’s NOT. This, the original, is as good. I judge by the taste and texture of their famous Carp Masgouf – itself a culinary masterpiece – juicy, smoky – delicious.
There used to be a time when you could call and order your fish to be started in advance but I think so many people did not show up that the restaurant (understandably) changed their policy. They’ll take your order but will not start the fish until you get there. So don’t order, arrive and sit assuming the fish will be served when ready – remind them! I was thrilled to find they serve one of my winter favourites – Patcha (sheep trotters) something I shall return to try shortly – Bah Bah!
As the weather has cooled, my guests and I were able to sit outside again and I must tell you it makes all the difference. The restaurant has several servers dedicated to the small outdoor seating area so you are well looked after. The flies are a bit of nuisance but hey, an occasional swat is an acceptable price to pay for sitting outdoors. Service is exemplary – friendly, attentive and efficient – well done.
Samad restaurant is the place where i go to when i want to eat Iraqi Kababs. If you haven't tried Iraqi kababs yet this is one delicacy i cannot recommend enough and Samad does them really well....Juicy succulent yummmmmm....
Restaurant has a nice Ambiance with an Arabian touch to it....The staff is friendly and the service is quick...
The Kabab plate which is 3 skewers is not cheap but you get complimentary Lentil soup, Salad for starters and tea after your meal..... Which more or less covers up the cost ....Great stuff excellent taste !!

Iraqi has always been my fav of the Arab world . You eat Iraqi and you know Lebanese is overrated . Samad is awesome ambience and friendly English speaking waiters ( very rare). Lamb and hamoor u gotta eat and their mutabel is to die for
one of the best resturant in dubai and UAE.
the food is just so perfect made and all the decorations is so wonderful and nice. the athmospher is so good and the staff is so nice and helpful.
I love to go there with my family or with my friends. they give so much food and the prices is very good also.
a must to visit when you are in dubai
Muraqqabat is a foodie heaven and for grill and arabic cuisine lovers, its the perfect place. Located right next to the bustling and famous Aroos Damascus, Samad Al Iraqi seems quite and reserved in comparison, but is much more exclusive and upscale compared to its neighbors. Samad al iraqi is taking the simple yet vibrant Iraqi cuisine to fine dining levels..
Iraqi food never meant anything to me, I expected the usual kebabs, grills and the plain jane hummus. But i was throughly mistaken, the menu is vast, and am sure none of you will recognize hardly anything from the menu if your new to Iraqi Cuisine. None of the kebabs or dishes were familiar to me and my dining partner, for us it was just a new arabic joint, but it turned out to be a new culinary adventure for us. To begin with, the waiters were rather well mannered and patient, which is a big relief when compared to other Arabic restaurants, they were kind to guide us through the menu and did not try to oversell as in other places and add to that our inability about the cuisine.
For starters we ordered the Liver with pomegranate syrup, which was a really delicious dish, the liver was cooked the usual way with spice, it also did have a bit of Indian influence i felt, perhaps its the refined methods of Iraqi cooking, but the dash of Pomegranate syrup really did the trick, it really made a huge difference to the dish, giving it a slightly tangy yet, vibrant flavor, a definite must try for anyone who goes in, for our mains, we had decided to go for seafood and try the famed Maskouf, something for which we really had come in based on a fellow blogger's experience.
Be warned and be ready to wait for around 30 to 40 minutes as these fishes are grilled to perfection and are usually massive in size, our fish was close to 1.2Kg and took around 40 mins to prepare, guess also being a full house added to the delay, but once the fish was ready it came in and it was one of the biggest fish grill dishes I had tried in life, the meal is fit for a king and queen, provided that they eat twice more than usual, I would recommend atleast a group of 3 to try this, even thou they say, singles come and try it out, I really dont believe it. The fish is perfectly flat grilled and you can dig in with the Iraqi bread and the dips that come along, the fish is crisp outside and tastes amazing and the flesh is as buttery as any grilled fish can get, I would recommend to keep the dips away and just go for it plain , as the flavors are amazing even without any dips.
Unfortunately, due to the large portion of main course I could no try their dessert section, but next time am going in with a larger team to invade this Iraqi food heaven. Amazing food and great ambience, really a must try.
