One of the more authentic Chinese food in Dubai. The fried rice and tofu dishes were good. Felt almost like I was home in Singapore/Malaysia. Not for those who like Panda Express or PF Chang’s.
Always a warm welcome when dining here. Food is great and affordable!
Thanks to Zomato and the positive reviews, we gave this place a try. And glad we did. The food was amazing, tasty and tangy. The Fried Udon Noodles was the best in flavor and taste. Only that the quantity was less. Portion size of all other items like Fried rice and the chicken dishes was generous and taste was simply too good.
Value for money place. Service was okay. We went late night at closing time, but they served with a smile. No rush to wind up.
The kitchen has a huge glass. You can see the chefs put together your order.
Food was delicious. Glad to know they are still around and even offer delivery. Highly recommended! Must try: beef noodle soup! All my tags are delicious - do try them!
Newly renovated, so missing that rather charming run down look
The food however remains excellent
The chef is an interesting character who obviously loves and is proud of what he does
The black bean fish is fabulous.
Great pricing too, though the ambience despite the renovation is still very modest
When you get a solid recommendation from a friend who asks you to go beyond decor to judge a restaurant ... And then you discover a place that is no nonsense good food ... So eat to your hearts content 💪
This hidden gem in Oud Metha is amazing! The Chef there is sooo hospitable and kind and if anything he is one of the reasons we go back time and again- he makes you feel so welcome it's heart warming! Food wise- their dumplings, peking duck, scallops in xo sauce and udon chilli beef noodles are a must try!! And definitely order their ice tea - best one I'v had yet!
i consider this hidden gem! 👌 no msg! chef is very friendly!!! i tried din tai fung fubai mall and resto beside lankwaifong oud metha (little bangkok and spring bamboo) this by far is the best chinese restaurant in dubai... with very affordable price... package deal.. just a bit improvement of the interior... my suggestions 1. beef basket, 2. beef hofan 3. seafood fried rice 4. siomai (best siomai in dubai) 5. peking duck 👌👌👌👌 thanks to very accommodating chef in town! 😊😊😊

It’s a shame that fewer and fewer patrons have been coming over to this Dubai gem. It’s been serving authentic Chinese and the first resto I knew that served Peking Duck in Dubai. I hope it picks up this year. Kudos to chef!
Been looking for authentic chinese food since I came in Dubai and found this place. THE FOOD WAS GEORGEOUS. We love the siewmai and beef with kangkung. The Chef had personally came to our table to give us complimentary food and ice tea. This place is not very fancy but if you are looking for the real taste of chinese then this is recommended. This will be on our top list of chinese food for now in Dubai 😊
Nestled amongst a sea of eateries with an unassuming exterior, this place is a gem of a find.
Lan Kwai Fong serves authentic Chinese food at reasonable prices. We tried their salted fish fried rice, crispy noodles with prawns, sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour prawns, black bean fish, black bean yong tau foo, double boiled soup and ice tea. Every dish was delicious!
Amazing food coupled with warm hospitality from the owner, I highly recommend this place, preferably with a big group so you can order more dishes.
My fave place for comfort food 👍👍👍
Best in: Peking Duck, Authentic Hong Kong Cuisine and the Chef

Been eating here since 2008, the crew were always charming especially their Captain.
Good food , friendly staff. Tasty Chinese dishes. Pocket friendly restaurant. Try their seafood sizzler once. Not much crowded, this is one of the oldest restaurants in Dubai
Tried their pecking duck and Singaporean noodles .The duck was crispy and Singaporean noodles were delicate and fresh.Their hoisin sauce and plum sauce is out of this world .
I really loved the experience and the food, it tasted very authentic and the service was fantastic. They made their own ice tea which was awesome and the appetisers were beyond great! Utterly fantastic spring rolls! We continued with beef brisket which was also amazing and udon noodles with beef. Nothing to complain, totally exceeded my expectations! Well done!
Most people won't enjoy the food here, but that is because they've never had real Chinese food and are only use to the Chinese places in food courts and pf changs. If you want tasty, healthy Chinese food then come here, otherwise go to pf changs or some other mainstream Chinese restaurant that uses lots of MSG and oil which are catered to westerners. Eating here reminded me of my mother's cooking, I felt like I was home again. I ordered tender beef and broccoli in Hong Kong XO sauce, mushroom and kay lan, and Hong Kong soup not shown on the menu here. If you don't know what to order ask the chef, but everything is good. The food served here is REAL Chinese food, the chef/owner is from Hong Kong, and he's super welcoming and will go out of his way to make sure you are happy when you eat here. Don't expect fancy decor when coming here, expect something similar to most Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong, if you know, you know.

Polite service and amazing food!!! This is my new favorite restaurant!
We ordered the duck with hoisin sauce. Delicious!!! And the service was very good! They even gave me a free iced tea. I love lan kwai fong!
Love this place! Not the ordinary Chinese food that you find around Dubai. It’s authentic as the chef is from Hong Kong; feel free to speak Cantonese or mandarin with him as he is a very friendly man, hospitality is top notch! Food was awesome, soup reminds me of my mama, gotta try the duck and other dim sum next time.
A small eatery. A friend of mine took me there. Yes the Peking Duck was a real treat. The chef was so good visited our table. Took our feedbacks. Offered a jug of ice tea. Good Chinese food
This restaurant is a gem in Oud Metha and has been around for quite awhile. Definitely my favourite Sweet & Sour Chicken and their Peking Duck is just superb. Their beef and mushroom soup is also a must try and food comes in great portions. However, they really should do something about their interior as its kind of gloomy and not well lit.
Best authentic chinese food in Dubai. They have the best sweet & sour chicken and peking duck. Everything was so good and will definitely come back. Price was also reasonable and the chef was so friendly and accomodating which gives the place a good vibes eventhough the place is a little bit outdated already.
Great traditional Hong Kong eatery with a good selection of Cantonese dishes, including herbal soup, steamed fish and egg-based concoctions. The atmosphere is simple with terracotta statues as decoration, the venue has seen better days but what it lacks in style it more than makes up in the warmth of its welcoming chef who does his best to satisfy guests.
One of the best places to have Crispy Prawns and well cooked duck. The food tastes great, sauces are amazing. The place is old and not very well maintained, but quality food and super friendly staff makes up for it. You may have to wait a while for your food though. Also there drinks (homemade ice tea) is quite nice!
Lan Kwai Fong is one of the oldest restaurants in Dubai. like the four Chinese warriors waiting for you at the entrance. They are famous for their Peking Duck but we ordered a healthier dish since I did not like what I felt when I ate peking duck before. Our starters was Kailan and Mushroom. Its a garlicky sauce that will cure your aching tummy. Our main dish was Tofu with veggies in Black Pepper sauce. This was requested by my friend. Both taste lovely, the chef was very accommodating even if we arrived 30 minutes before closing. They even gave us a pitcher of iced tea for free.
Lan Kwai Fong has nice tasting food but very gloomy interior, it feels like a horror film inside. I hope they do something about the decorations and lighting.
I've been going her for 7 years and it's always amazing. For authentic Hong Kong food that will blow your mind, go here.
Regular order: Mixed starter platter, Chicken Sambal, Beef basket and Jasmine rice.
This is far one of the best authentic Chinese Restaurant in Dubai. The quality of the food is fit for 5🌟 restaurants for a very affordable price. To top it off, the Head Chef is generous and warm. He's positive energy makes the stay enjoyable. A must visit for everyone!
I really appreciate when the Chef of the house takes his time to leave his station just to meet who is he serving to and gives complimentary food and fresh iced tea. Hands down the best Chinese restaurant there is in Dubai. Dishes are all on point, affordable, authentic in taste and generous in flavour and portions. I am excited to visit this place again hopefully with upgraded look and ambiance. If not, I have few and simple suggestions to give this resto that missing bling: uniforms for the staff and general cleaning/maintenance at least once a week please - specially the washroom.
We discovered Lan Kwai Fong at least 7 years ago. It has been our go-to restaurant for every possible reason. Celebrations, Impromptu meals, pick me up occasions. Anything.
Located in Oud Metha, Lan Kwai Fong is cheek by jowl with a row of other eateries. It's neighbour is Little Bangkok. But, as anyone who has been to this restaurant will tell you. Once you've eaten at Lan Kwai Fong you will always return.... Again and again.
The menu is interesting and the food consistently good. To have dishes that taste the same for over 7 years proves the dexterity and focus of the chef. In this case, Chef Sam who is also proprietor.
As soon as one enters the restaurant, one is greeted warmly by the staff, a beaming smile from behind the glass fronted kitchen and wave from the Chef himself.
Once seated, we rattle of our orders. No need for the enticingly created menus. We know exactly what we would like to eat.
Scallops with Chinese Chives, Seafood Oriental Sizzler, Chicken in Sambal Sauce, Egg noodles with Garden vegetables and Jasmine rice. This is our standard order and the waiting staff smile knowingly as they write it down.
We do on occasion order the
appetiser platter. This comes with Sesame Prawn Toast, Spring Rolls, Chicken Siew Mai, Chicken Wantons and Prawn Crackers. 2 orders are easily shared by 4 adults.
The hot and sour soup is good and hearty. Great if there's a nip in the air and always good as a light repast.
Lan Kwai Fong swears by its Peking Duck. Available in half and full portions this is a great dish for a fun family meal. The dish is served with all its components and it is left to the individual to create their own version. A whole duck is good for at least 6 to 8.
Finally dessert. One is usually so full there is little or no enthusiasm left for sweet endings. But, when tempted and able we have ordered the pancakes with ice cream and been completely smitten. The hot, crisp, stuffed pancakes and the cold ice cream are an odd couple but amazing on the taste buds. It's a tough call every time. To order or not....
That's why we look forward to next time...
A huge thank you to Chef Sam and his very able team for creating consistently good good in an ever changing environment. The endless jugs of complimentary Iced Tea are enough to have us return for more. And we do...
Last. A word about the decor. Large spacious hall with benevolent Terracotta Warriers who watch as we demolish our food with a glass fronted kitchen where we watch the leaping flames and the huge woks tossing up unimaginable delights. Fascinating for adults and children alike.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Chinese food cooked in the Hong Kong style.
A friend and I were in Oud Metha looking for possible places to eat and we zeroed in on Lan Kwai Fong. The name intrigued us and we were excited. After taking a couple of wrong turns and getting lost (thanks to our depleted navigation skills for the want of food!), we finally arrived at the restaurant.
Pleasant kitchen, visible kitchen, decent place staffed by Indians, Filipinos, and Chinese. Good ambiance. We were ushered in and quickly offered a table and asked what we would like to drink. We went with water.
My friend ordered a sweet corn chicken soup while I went with a hot and sour schezwan soup. We also ordered mixed steamed Siew Nai which were chicken and prawns.
The soup was ok although it was not very spicy but we were given chilli oil so I could add that and spice it up a bit. The Siew Mai too was okay. Nothing great.
For the main course, we opted for the Beef in Oyster sauce and Chicken in Malay Sambal sauce. These were great, good portions and accompanied with a bowl of sticky rice although it was not very sticky and disintegrated so difficult to eat with chopsticks. I switched to a spoon shortly thereafter.
The staff was kind enough to bring us a complimentary jug of fresh iced tea which was delicious.
Good place, will visit again.
Recommended.
I love this place! The chef is such a humble person and a mean Cook! My usuals are Crispy Shredded Beef, Wok-fried Chicken with Black Bean & Chilli, Schezwan Noodle/Rice. Service is great! Food is amazing! Complementary Chinese Tea for regulars. Only complaint the air conditioning has been faulty the last few times I visited. Price is 100-120 for 2 people.
For truly authentic Chinese cuisine this seems the place to be. It is the bomb. Firstly it's not Indian Chinese (hakka) which doesn't make it a bad thing, it just makes it different and a good experience.
The service is friendly and staff take the time to explain and suggest. Orders are served quickly and the chef personally came to greet us and made us feel very welcome.
We ordered a mixed fried rice (not on the menu), jasmine rice, beef spring onion ginger and the crispy beef with Cantonese sauce on golden basket.
Everything rocked. The mixed rice was tasty and the beef dishes were excellent. Tender, good cuts of beef made the dishes worth it. I see why the crispy beef is a signature dish and highly recommended.
Definitely a must try
Great service. We tried chicken dumplings, Bean curd with century eggs, Kangkong with sambal sauce and kungpao chicken. Food is Authentic Chinese. Worth the price!
Excellent service and hospitality received. Delicious roast Peking duck and vegetables. Would come again, recommended. Not too busy atmosphere with comfortable seats. Good ambience. Owner is very kind, humble makes a difference to your experience. Parking outside available... Enjoy!
Lan Kwai Fong is a very quiet restaurant, which I personally love. The staff were extremely kind. We were greeted by the chef, he came to our table a couple of times and gave us a jug of homemade ice tea, which was complimentary. The food here is very flavourful and filling. I would recommend the sweet and sour chicken and crispy beef, both of them were sweet and I wouldn't order them together. The seafood fried rice over here was really simple in a good way. The noodles were really nice, I loved the flavour and it had a great texture.
Always a lovely meal here. What the place lacks in ambiance it far and away makes up for in the wonderful food to be had here. The food is authentic and the staff are always friendly. A favourite restaurant of mine.
Ambiance: 3/5
Staff: 4/5
Food: 4.5/5
This place serves up the best Chinese food in Dubai. By this I mean proper Chinese Food and not Indian-Chinese Food which seems to be the norm in Dubai.
Don't miss the Crispy Beef - it is amazing!
Lan Kwai Fong Restaurant on Oud Metha Street near Lamcy Plaza is your go to place for authentic Hong Kong Food. If you are a fan of spicy, desi Chinese stuff, then this is a place that you won't like because the ingredients maintain their individual tastes and flavours and don't allow the sauces to become overbearing. The sauces are just a light additive to give the steamed or stir fried foods their consistency. Even the otherwise fiery Schezwan dishes do not blow steam out of your ears. So try their steamed chicken, hokkien rice in chicken sauce or the prawns in XO sauce and eat to your fill. Digestion is just a couple of hours away - the food is so light. However, the restaurant is in bad need of a facelift as the furniture is worn out, plates are old, etc., and I have witnessed the ageing through the years. Sonali Mukhopadhyay
Went for Lunch, great food, great service, our host - Imelda was very attentive to our order... It is great receiving such service and I thank the chef - Sam for the wonderful gesture of complimentary starter and ensuring the food served was to great taste.. I surely shall becoming back soon for the food and more important the wonderful hospitality given... 6 STAR!! rating for me..
Came to pick up a takeaway order. Arrived earlier than I was asked to. Whilst waiting I was offered Jasmine tea on the house which I politely declined and was then greeted a few minutes later by the chef who offer me refreshments on the house and mentioned that he would need 10 mins more to complete my order. I informed them I was not in a hurry and to take their time. To make me more comfortable the lady brought some magazines to the table where I was seated. I have not even eaten the food and I already love the place. Let's hope the Peking duck and the sweet and sour chicken are as awesome as the hospitality is. Well done Team Lan Kwai Fong.
So far the best amongst the authentic Chinese restaurant I been to a bit far coming to this part of Dubai but it's worth a drive! We had bbq duck in ginger and onion, congee, the Singapore mee hoon noodles and it wouldn't be a complete dining experience if we don't order a chicken siomai as well as vegetable dumplings. Barbeque duck is a bit of let down but other than that it's all scrumdelicious!
Very delicious Peking duck. Very. But place needs some changes in interior and design. But again, very very tasty duck. Believe me, I've been in Beijing many times, in authentic rare restaurants so I know what I'm talking about.
Their pecking duck is DELICIOUS! I've heard some negative comments about this restaurant but I think other people haven't ordered the best sellers. Worth the price. I will recommend for group dinner/parties. You can rent their private room with karaoke.
If you're in the mood for a tasty, healthy, authentic Chinese meal, make your way to Lan Kwai Fong (Pecking Duck) Oud Metha. The steamed fish is excellent, and very light, the restaurant uses no MSG (mono-sodium glutamate / ajinomoto). The chef is friendly, always welcomes you with a smile, and often reminds you to renew your parking fare if you've been there longer than an hour.I must warn however, the food may not be appeasing to the average South Asian palate, who generally yearn for spicy aftertastes and strong tastes of spices (ps this is not Indian-Chinese). But for an authentic Chinese food lover such as myself, the place is ideal. I've been there over ten times. I reckon the restaurant would do good by introducing a loyalty programme.
If you're after tasty, reasonably priced Chinese food, look no further! Lan Kwai Fong is by far the most authentic Chinese restaurant (in the affordable range) I've tasted so far. Great taste, good service too - though the ambience could do with a little refurbishing. It's owned and run by a Hong Kong-er whom you will be able to see walking in and out of the kitchen to personally serve customers himself. On both times we went, we were offered complimentary, flavourful soup. The food here reminded me of those I've tried in restaurants back in my home country. We particularly enjoyed XO sauce scallops, crispy prawn mayonnaise and sweet & sour chicken. Remember to tell the waitress if you like your food less salty. For 4 dishes (1 scallop, 1 prawn, 1 fish and 1 vege) with 3 bowls of rice and a bottle of local water, we paid around 160+dhs. Kids were given complimentary ice-cream for dessert too.
Accidental discovery for us ( apparently not for a lot of Zomies!) intrigued by the name we walked in & saw s rather unassuming joint packed with diners gorging from awesome plates.
Don't get fooled by the looks which for some itself is a sign. We had dumplings, crispy beef & egg noodles which was yummmmm. The mind water more but the tummy was packed so we surely will go back for some duck & seafood.
Quick fast efficient staff & an extremely jolly Chinese chef who greets patrons.

Food:
Went there for the duck specifically, as it is called "Lan Kwai-Fong Peking Duck Restaurant"
The duck disappoints.
It was dry.
Since I only tried one dish, I cannot speak for the rest of the menu, but I wouldn't mind trying out other dishes there.
Service:
Staff seemed friendly.
Ambiance:
Can't complain. It looks and feels Chinese, in Dubai.
A friend recommended this to us previously. We were looking for a place to get some nice Asian style roasted duck / chicken and they do this from time to time. We've seen people flock here just to get their orders and we were wondering if it was really worth it. So we made 2 orders that was enough to cover about 6-7 people. It tasted great, fresh and worth the money especially due to the portion we got.
This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Dubai. Pure Hongkong style Chinese food with fresh and authentic flavors and ingredients. The Peaking duck is good, not the best in Dubai but not bad and most importantly well priced. My favorites are the Prawns on toast, Szechuan style Hot and Sour soup, Chicken in Chilly bean sauce and the Jasmine Egg friend rice. The accompaniments served are excellent be it the chilly oil, chilly sauce or the caramelized nuts. I would like to bring to their notice that last night when I had taken some food from here they forgot to give rice while they charged for it. But the Roast Duck leg in Black Pepper cause was so food that I forgot about the rice.
Basically this is a fantastic Chinese restaurant if you are fond of authentic flavors without any bling bling!! To add to that the food is light, with less oil and not overtly spicy. Less use of cornflour and does not leave u bloated unlike the usual MSG laden Chinese food.
Well done Lan Kwai Fong
Fantastic chinese food!! topped with warm service!!
The ambience was simple with slightly low seats low with these side tables.
We ordered the black pepper prawn, chicken fried rice, the crispy tofu with XO sauce and the Schezwan noodles with prawn and chicken.
The prawn in black pepper sauce was fantastic and of course a definite comeback for. The rice and noodles were also awesome but the Tofu was just ok. There was a chili oil sauce served that was unique and great.
The service was good and quick, but the nice surprising part was the complimentary soup sent in by the chef while we waited for our order to come in. He also came around to check how we enjoyed our meal which of course added to our experience.
It has taken us 10 years of being in Dubai to come here, but we loved the experience enough to return soon!!
Love to come back to this authentic place to revive my memories of China visit. Simple and good food. Recommended if you want to taste real Chinese food
I love Lan Kwai Fong especially the duck, hofan noodles, fried salt and pepper cuttlefish and even if I'm not fond of eating rice, I can't resist their fried rice with salted fish, soooooo yummy 😋👍. The place is typical Chinese resto, nothing fancy but the food quality always makes us want to come back. The chef always visits our table and checks if we are happy with our food. He is very friendly and always offering complimentary drinks or desserts. This is one of the best Chinese joints here in Dubai. You can never go wrong with any of their dishes.
A brilliant authentic Hongkong style Chinese food Diner near Lamcy Plaza on one side and American Hospital, Al Nasr Lesiureland on the other side. I found it suddenly while passing by in a bus. There are a few Chinese style food joints next to it.
This one stands out due to it's low profile but unique casual decor interspersed with traditional artifacts and statues of Chinese emperors, Amateurish fish tanks and pictures with a big view of the whole kitchen. Very down to earth and homely. Big dining hall with high ceiling. A bit dark. Around 8 Air cooler machines standing at the corners. One side of the hall was having chairs and tables. And the other side with Sofa type long wooden bench style seating.
I went there pretty late at around 1030 pm. The kitchen staffs were already on the verge of closing shop and cleaning utensils, though the official closing time was still 1 hr away. It seemed they were in a hurry to down the shutter and one customer was returned back around 11-10 pm , but officially they close at 1130pm. I am mentioning this for the benefit of the late diners- better be early. I had a bit of difficulty to catch the attention of the attending staffs. But their behaviour was impeccable. White costumes do create an impression.
After ordering the popular item among the reviewers-Black pepper prawn and my choice- Fried egg noodles with garden vegetables, the food was delivered pretty fast. The iced tea was on recommendation of the server lady and it was well worth. Probably the best ice tea taken by me.
The noodles and specially the veggies in the noodles truly tasted very fresh. The black pepper prawn was also a winner. I will give a 4.0 on food.
The menu was small but covers almost all basic Chinese fare and written in easy language so that there is no confusion with Chinese names, which sometimes happens in other places. The tariff for most items were between 20-39 dhs. Except the soups and drinks, which were less. The Famed Peking duck whole was 198 dhs- the costliest. It's hugely Value for money. The servers are easy to talk to and suggestions are good. They don't hover around, which is a good thing.
Can be upgraded to modern style but would loose character and the cost might go up. I love the way it is now. And I will definitely go back for more and more. There is a feel good factor here. But the staffs need to be a little more active to get more customers- they are a bit lackadaisical to my preference. Anyway it's a small grumble.
One word- Recommended!
Iam a sucker for Pan asian cuisine and stumbled across this jewel.
Tried the beef noodle soup and siew mai and loved it. Yeah I know; it wasn't much, it was late :(..but iam definitly going to back there and trying that damn duck and indulging in some major main course the next time around :)
We had black pepper prawns , crispy noodles and egg fried rice w/ vegetables and we're super satisfied ♡♡♡ one order can be shared by two persons. Will definitely go back to try the other dishes ☆☆☆☆
Lan Kwai Fong is one of the authentic Chinese restaurants in Dubai. It is not filipino Chinese, not Indian Chinese, not American Chinese --- just simply Chinese. Food is unpretentious and prices are affordable at less than AED40 for most dishes. Servings are generous since each order is usually good for 2. Try the duck w/mushrooms,egg fried rice, crispy noodles and black pepper prawns!
Enjoyed everything I ordered- dumplings, duck in black bean, garlic spicy fish and shezwan noodles- fresh and tasty. The ice tea is yum! The ambience can made better but apart from that the service and food gets a thumbs up from me.. Chef Sam is courteous and welcoming. Must visit
Authentic , delicious and fresh ingredients!! First time here and leaving very happy!:) the lemon ice tea deserves. A shoutout with a tangy tamarind taste. courteous chef Sam .. Kudos ..
This is the 2nd time I have visited this restaurant in 2 years, ignoring their ambience and un matching cutlery I must say the food is delicious .
Their black pepper prawn is a must must! Also try their fried prawns....
Their serving size is big enough for 4 and if ur just 2 ull gladly take away :-)
Would visit again for sure....
Went there to attend to my never ending craving for Peking Duck and I wasn't disappointed. Perfect crispy skin and tender inside. A tad below perfection but I guess that would depend on the freshness of the meat.
Impressive menu. But outside the Peking Duck the food was average.
I visited this restaurant twice and both were memorable experiences. The first time I was dragged there with a foodie buddy who claimed its served the best Peking duck and he was so right! YUM YUM! we were just three of us and hogged an entire duck. We also ordered crispy chilly chicken which was a complete treat! The fun part was they had some herb in it which was rather weird, both my friends said it made their mouth numb for a few minutes. They tried to lure me into trying it but I managed to escape. The chef said it was peppercorn but it so wasn't! Hope we figure this out next time.So that was a funny yummy experience.
My second time was with this special person. We had recently met and we randomly decided to grab a bite and I suggested this place. I don't remember much as the presence of this person took over all my senses but we ordered seafood soup and a chicken dish and some fried noodles and all of it was yum and super worth the cost. So this turned out to be the perfect first date, totally unplanned ;)
Seen this restaurant several times when I have passed by Oud Metha area but never felt like trying it out for some reason. Than my friend was strongly saying on giving it a shot which inclined me to even go for it; and all the more because it's a Chinese restaurant; and I Love Chinese food
And I am really happy that I did try out this hidden gem.
It was 03 of us and we were really famished. So we placed order for:
01 portion of Fried Chicken and Prawn Wantons,
01 portion of Crispy Beef with Cantonese sauce in Golden Basket, 01 Sizzling Beef Tenderloin, 01 Pan fried Kung Pao Chicken, 01 Fried rice with Chicken in seafood flavour, 01 Wok fried Noodles with chicken and vegetables. We were going to continue with our orders but the waiter said that this order itself was good for four people; so we stopped.
While we eagerly waited for food; we were served with hot soup, compliments from the Chef. The soup was really good.
Now for the starters and main course; the Wantons were good, the chicken was better, and the prawns was just ok.
Both the beef dishes we ordered were absolutely amazing; outstanding and really flavorful. The crispy beef was served on a golden fried noodle basket which was also edible. And as for the Kung-Pao chicken; it was good but we have had better.
The fried rice was too good; perfectly cooked rice with chicken, vegetables and egg and all of the ingredients combined with a good hint of seafood flavor; adds to a great taste. The Wok fried noodles was also good.
While waiting for the bill; the Chef got us a fresh pot of Jasmine Tea. Honestly, after downing a King's feast; it was just what we wanted to get back on our feet.
A very soothing refreshing drink.
Overall a very satisfying meal, with great service and hospitality, and also very reasonably priced. We were just delighted to have tried from here. And we will be definitely coming back to try out other dishes and also the Chef's recommendations and the Peking Duck as well.
This quaint establishment is tucked away behind the Lamcy Plaza. The dining area is very inviting and comfortable with a view of the kitchen behind glass, providing some reassurance that the Chefs are using fine ingredients and have nothing to hide.
Unlike many of Dubai's Asian-inspired 4/5 star hotel restaurants and those scorching red-colored eateries with excessive Chinese lanterns, the Lan Kwai Fong provides a relaxed atmosphere to dine with generous portions and authentic Cantonese flavors.
I have eaten here several times and try to order something different each visit as I have never been disappointed with the food. The ingredients emanate freshness with brightly colored vegetables, wok-fried with just the right amount of crunch.
A few of my favorite dishes are the Beef with Black Bean Sauce with its rich flavors and tender strips of meat, and Kung Pao Chicken with Chili and Peanuts which is spicy, sweet and delicious.
I can never resist a side order of Kai-lan (Gai-lan, also known as Chinese broccoli) which is lightly stir-fried with garlic, soy and oyster sauce. This dish is both delicious and healthy.
This place reminds me of my China trip! The Terracotta warriors, hanging roast ducks and the lanterns give you the hint of what to expect.
This is one of the few Chinese restaurants that does not add MSG to food. Another important distinguish factor is the fact that it has an open kitchen. One can see exactly what the cook does! This requires lots of self confidence and discipline. Another caveat is that they prepare all their sauces in-house.
The result is beautiful food with authentic flavors. This is one of my favorites in Dubai.
Went to this restaurant with a open mind and was rewarded with some good food. OK the decor might not suit every bodies taste and is a dated, but the food is good. There were 3 of us all chinese chefs with over 100 years of cooking time.... We started with simple dim sum it was OK nothing to get excited about and the prawn toast was a bit over cooked. Your now thinking how and what did i award 4. Well in total we ordered 8 dishes and rice. The last 5 dishes were main course dishes. One duck with Chinese mushroom and oyster sauce , one half chicken with soya suace, three seafood one with vegetables in OX sauce and one with crispy noodles and sallops with kwai lan. All were cooked well the seafood with the crispy noodles was cooked to perfection not a bouncing rubbery ball in sight, the duck was cooked well and tasted of what chinese roast duck should and was sufficient for three people. The soya sause chicken was good considering that they the cooks are not allowed to use white wine or brandy (no acohol licence) The other seafood dishes were also cooked to a high standard.
All in this restaurant's standard of favour is up there for the middle east and for a price bracket of under Dir100 per person. Yes you can go to 5 star hotel but how much would you have paid for the dishes above. Let me see 500 for the duck, about 150 for the chicken, and somewhere between 150 to 100 for the seafood, apart for the scallops that would be around 200. Throw in the starters say 60 each we are looking at dir1400 not including drink. I paid dir278 I thank you.....
the good :
+ their peking duck, seems to be the most recommended menu to order. it was so good!
+ the other dish (beef chilli) was good and the way they present this menu is quite appealing as well.
the bad :
- no parking
- prepare to pay aed 250++ if you willing to order their delicious peking duck... the waiter will help you slice and arrange them in your dining table for immediate consumption...and for the rest of your peking duck, you can ask them to wrap and carry it home.
This place is an unique restaurant, Me and my husband love their authentic Asian recipes it's really good! I recommend the beef basket And the Singaporean noodles combo perfect for a weekday out dinner plan! Cheers
I had spied this pan-Chinese restaurant on my way to Barbecue Delights, and seized the opportunity to try it out when a friend recommended the food. Chef-owner Sam recognised my said friend and warmly greeted us. Food here is tasty and has definite authentic Cantonese qualities to the dishes. The highlight was the perfectly steamed hammour in soy and ginger. The namesake crispy Peking duck was, frankly, a let down as it felt a bit dry and the flour pancakes were definitely arid. The quick fix to the dry duck dish is to generously use hoisin sauce to resuscitate the pancake. Other dishes included black pepper prawns, spinach with three types of egg, tofu with mushrooms, and a complimentary (in our case) plate of Shanghai noodles with cucumber juliennes and sesame sauce. The restaurant has versatile seating, with tables for couples and "booths" for small gatherings. I liked this place very much and it might just be my "go to place" for Chinese food in Dubai.
It was a blessed Sunday, so after a friend and I finished hearing the mass we figured why not dine in Hyu Korean Restaurant. So I instantly checked the location through the map that Zomato has given. The problem was it did not give me the right direction.... (WTH Zomato, fix this please!) Until we passed by Lan Kwai Fong Restaurant, so we decided to go inside as we were achingly famished. The first thing I noticed was the kitchen covered with glass. I like it when I see how my food is being prepared, it gives me a lil' peace of mind! LoL!! We ordered duck with oyster mushroom in bean sauce, siomai and this very heavenly lychee drink. As we were waiting for the food, Chef Sam approached the table and encouragingly told us that their food is very, very good. I told him, "Let me be the judge of that!" ... wink... wink... Then our food arrived. The verdict - délicieux! Chef Sam is right! I dont mind the duck's fat, the bad interior and the bad service. The place is worth another try though.
We went here based on a recommendation in Time Out magazine. The restaurant certainly is basic and a bit grubby, not the cleanest either looking through the kitchen window and behind the cash counter, but the food was really good. Served reasonably fast, we had the roasted duck (half) and the crispy beef, both were very tasty. The duck was mixed, partly juicy and soft, other parts a bit dry. The taste was great tho. We will for sure come back and try other dishes.
After having zero Chinese food in the past one month I decided to try this place out, expecting the worse. Thankfully, I was wrong. Authentic Chinese but not necessarily Hokkien/Cantonese. The duck and veg was really good. The dry chili chicken could have been better then what my Malaysian pallet is used to. On the whole it was a delightful experience, especially for those around Oud Metha.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better Chinese restaurant in Dubai. Their service could be better but the food is so good I keep returning. The peking duck is an absolute must! Never had a disappointing dish here. One of my favourites is the chicken in black-bean sauce. Its always busy, so reserve a table.

+4.5
In a word: Incredible!
Seldom will you see a restaurant worthy of a rating above 4 in my books. I try to be as critical as possible because the standard needs to be set high so others can benefit.
My wife and I just wanted to grab some food. Lan Kwai Fong was an accidental dinner visit when Little Bangkok next door was too busy during iftar.
LKF was just next door, but sadly didn't look enticing. When you walk in, there's an air of suspicion and contemplation - how does a restaurant like this exist next to such a nice looking place like Little Bangkok. It instantly offers a mediocre cafeteria feel and poor acoustics from the fountains, all of which leave a questionable interest. Still, I've learnt to follow my instincts that tell me how to find the most delicious food by not looking at the interior.
Pros
They claim to have the best Peking duck and I love duck, so guess what I ordered first. The duck, duh! Half since my wife isn't a big fan of 'the duck' in general. Let me not be the first to tell you (because Timeout rated them the best for duck in 2012), this duck was incredible. It came quickly, it was cooked to absolute perfection. Crispy on the outside, moist and soft on the inside. Man did my wife enjoy my duck! Yes, she had about half of it herself. No need for speculation, she's obviously a fan now.
We also got some veggie noodles, prawn crackers and a custom chicken with veggies like baby corn, mushrooms, bell pepper and such in oyster sauce - made spicy to taste, which was pretty delicious. All in all, authentic and right to the point. If you're looking for this kind of Chinese food, then come to LKF. If you need a nice decor and intimate dining experience, then try PF Chang's, which is almost as good - minus the missing duck from their menu.
Service was as you would expect it...good, transactional and pretty quick.
The 4.5 is because the duck quite literally tipped the scale. See for yourself.
Cons
The last dish a lot longer to come and that was a little annoying. Also, I had to ask for a cold pepsi about 3 times before it finally arrived. It wasn't a busy restaurant, so the service could have been more responsive. Speed was fine once you got their attention.
Enjoy the photos.
I was delighted to find Lan Kwal Fong alive and kicking with Chef Sam still dancing around the kitchen - for some reason I thought it had closed down some years ago. In its day it was my absolute favourite Chinese restaurant in Dubai - as much for the charisma and in-kitchen theatrics of Chef Sam himself as the amazing food he not just cooked but sometimes even served us. In its day nothing came close to Lan Kwai Fong's unique Hong Kong style cuisine. And thankfully the food is still amazing, still authentic and still affordable - what more do you want? The restaurant itself now has a more lived in look and feel about it but to me that just adds to the character of the place. Service is good, not great, just good - it felt like they were short of one server - a little stretched. But this place has always been about Chef Sam and his food. If you like authentic Chinese food Hong Kong style - it doesn't get much better than this.
Im a sucker for good chinese. And NOT the takeaway kind. Some real good chinese food with alot of heart and even more flavour. My best friend introduced me to this place and my family and i have been going there alot. Its tucked away in Oud meitha. I especially love the decor. It feels "basic" but its actually very well thought out. I love any place that has a glass kitchen and i can see in.
THINGS TO ORDER:
-The famous pecking duck
-The starter set for two ( enough for 4 people. Features dimsum, prawn toast and other lovely succulent treats )
-The crispy beef basket
-Sweet and sour chicken ( i know this sounds typical. But TRUST ME. A little on the sweet side though. Keep that in mind jf your not into that )
ALL OF THE DIMSUMS
their fried rice is my favorite.
If theres something on the menu you are NOT SURE OF ASK ABOUT IT. They do have real authentic items like dishes with century egg ( NOT for the faint of heart ) and dishes based on the "egg drop" sauces.
I love the food. I am fat. Trust me.
THEY DO NOT USE MSG. THIS PLACE IS MSG FREE!
Best Hong Kong cuisine in Dubai. Try Prawn Salt & Pepper, Beef in Black Bean sauce, Hamour in white sauce. In fact everything on the menu is mouth-watering. A gastronomic treat for food connoisseurs. And while you are devouring the awesome spread don't forget to thank Chef Sam for all the delights. The BEST authentic Chinese cuisine you will ever eat. So stop reading this & get in your car and go, go, go ????
This is one of the place where I bring my friends if they want authentic and cheap Cantonese cuisine. Most of the Chinese restaurants in the metro are from Mainland and the taste is really different.
The food here tastes good but I hope they would consider to refurbish the place. The place looks dark and uninviting. The mini fountain doesnt look appealing as well.
The only thing that makes me want to eat here is their salt and pepper cuttlefish. I can easily finish one serving of this with a bowl of rice. Hope they improve the decor to attract more customers.
WHAT TO ORDER
Duck w/ oyster mushroom in spicy bean sauce
crispy noodles w/ seafood
Hokien Tofu
egg fried rice
siu mai
Lan kwai Fong claims it won Best Chinese Restaurant from some award giving magazine some years back but when you first walk into the restaurant , it will be hard to imagine it winning anything. The place is a bit dark and murky , much like the other Chinese restaurant next door however, don't be discouraged. I went here with a friend and ordered the crispy noodles, duck with vegetables, chicken dumplings and tofu & eggplant.
When they served the food, the two of us were overwhelmed. The servings were huge! Each dish is good for at least 3-4 people, except for the dumplings (4 pcs). We were startled at first then we went on to laugh at the amount of food in front of us.
Everything tasted amazing. The crispy noodles was our favorite followed by the duck. HOWEVER, everything was also a bit greasy tough so if you are conscious about this, ask them to hold off a bit on the oil. Overall, this is a place I'd recommend if you're with a large group of friends who are all hungry and with a limited budget. And yes, even if it is a few dirhams more expensive, it is better than the other Chinese place next door.
Been there several times in the last couple of months - pretty good Hong Kong Style food. There is a dearth of proper Chinese restaurants in Dubai, most of them run by Indians according to Indi Chinese taste standards. And the few Chinese run restaurants are still largely inaccessible to the non Chinese speaker with weird sauces and meats on certain menus. As the Dubai diner is generally very "International" but only superficially (without having much taste or understanding for anything properly foreign), these restaurants never flourish. The exception to this should be Hong Kong and Taiwanese cuisine as it universally liked. Lan Kwai Fong is pretty good for what it tries to do but being located in a largely Indian neighborhood it is still pretty obscure . There are some interesting things on the menu but mostly accessible to the regular diner. Their crispy noodles in Hong Kong style are good, and the roast duck should be tried with sauce instead of the boring way with pancakes (the black pepper sauce is the best). For the slight whisper of something interesting and different, try the fried cuttlefish and the eggplant in fish sauce.
Was here last night with a friend. Place was pretty much empty, apart from 2 tables and us ofcourse.
We ordered the beef noodle bowl soup. We split it 2 ways and it was STILL too much for the 2 of us to finish (you've got to note that the beef is actually beef muscle - rather than actual beef pieces - so expect it to be a bit chewy). But you still get the great taste of exotic chinese street-food in the soup/beef broth.
We also ordered the flat noodle with beef, which was ok. Nothing great but good I guess.
But the main attraction for us was the crispy beef which come in a noodle based basket. This was AMAZING. Lan Kwai is definately known for their Peiking Duck but in all honesty, the crispy beef was the star attraction (however, they even have another crispy beef dish which comes with a sauce of some sort - not to get mixed up with the crispy beef in noodle basket dish which I'm talking about). It is supposed to be dry but it was pasted on with a semi-slight spicy layer of gravy. But it was absolutely wonderful. And tasted even better with the edible noodle basket it comes in.
The bill came up to about Dhs.120 (including tip) and we even wasted most of the food due to the big portions. So, all in all money wise it was a really good evening.
