My go-to stop for a great cup of coffee and a relaxing place to get my work done, power outlets all over so don’t worry about that. The coconut cake is to die for.

A cafe with a unique perspective on sheikh zayed road near Safa Park. One part is a men’s saloon with a full spa, the other is a speciality coffee cafe built around the theme of cyclists (that’s where the name comes from PDL for Pedal). They support the local cycling community and have a wall with local team jerseys as well.

The açaí bowl is amazing! Beautiful space and very friendly baristas serving up the best brews. The coffee is great and the kinder cookie is incredible.

Nestled in a slip service Road off SZR (heading South towards Abu Dhabi), PDL is one of a few niche coffee shops erupting in Dubai.  But there is more, the concept means this is also a barbershop and here is the unique selling point that differentiates it from other coffee shops in Dubai.  And this begs the question: is this a coffee shop where you can get freshen up or is it a barbershop that serves surprisingly good-quality food and light snacks?  

My thoughts and more on that below: 

HIGHLIGHTS:
- The decor feels Nordic inspired with bright white walls warmed with leather accents and pops of character with bikes mounted on the wall (PDL = Pedal).  It's masculine in direction without alienating.
- Macchiato is strong, you may want to ask for sugar.
Generous opening hours starting at 7AM!  That's plenty of time to park and grab something on the go.
- It's so quiet, I mean the location (more on this) especially early in the morning if you are commuting to the office and want to stop off for a fast coffee to go.  I would recommend it as a quiet place to work too as the wifi is also fast.
- Service is punctual, friendly.

LOWLIGHTS:
- The location.  I am not convinced there will be a lot of foot traffic so you will have to know it is here to go.  The service road off SZR helps but these guys will really need a good marketing campaign to make their whereabouts known.  There are lots of coffee shops in Dubai between the chains and the bespoke.  Good luck to them.

And in here lies the trick: PDL should pitch itself as a barbershop with excellent coffee as people are more likely to 'make the effort' to come to a barbers early in the morning to look good for meetings or mosque and then grab a coffee on the way out.  There's plenty of space for a shave and takeaway coffee.  I know a few places in Europe with similar concepts.  

In the meantime, I will definitely head back to PDL.
