Even though I have gone past this place while heading to Sports Bar, on a Friday evening I visited this place the first time, found that outlet has won a couple of awards. I found it is indeed a very good place for Thai dishes, and they also go on to a great length to keep their authenticity.
Simply the service was excellent, and quiet, no lots loud noises or music playing, maybe during Ramadan! Has an open kitchen, people native to the cuisine is preparing the dishes, so there is your guarantee of what you"re about to put in your mouth.
I liked their Coconut base Soup with Prawns, which is done well, I like this flavour mostly because I find the soup is much lighter on the chilly, compared to the TomYam.
This place has many options when it comes to steamed-fish, which is a dish very hard to find and my reason for visiting.
I really liked the steamed seabass, nicely done, fish is fresh and flakey, deboned so well, with the fillet option, I did not find a bone. A Job well done, credit to the chef. I tried the north-eastern preparation, and not the same steam-fish option other outlet offered, their dish turned out to be superb, its also accompanied with steamed-vegetables, actually balance the dish so well. As for flavouring, the northern option comes with chilly source, made by mixing different types resh chillis, grounded, mixed mostly with fermented fish-paste, the source is extremely chilly-hot, has district smell, a stronger version of fish-source. No, they don't give you option for reducing the chilly level. But no worries, it flavouring chilly source comes as a side dish. You can enjoy the fish even without the chilly-source, as the steaming process has its own flavour. Whereas I opt for stary fried Thai broccoli (Kai-lan or Gai-lan) with the oyster source as my side for the steam-fish.
The Papaya Salad is good, Whereas I made the mistake of asking for medium (2xchillies), wow that was so hot, I could not help myself for more. They also offer 3xchillies, maybe for some who can take an extream level of chilli. The level of chilli, for which, the staff gave me an early warning, I thought I could, but fooled. Perhaps, this is the place you test your tolerance for of chilly if having food so hot your kind of thing.
We had two coconut-milk based dessert, cold-soups, the Sago Thu was a challenge, extremely sweet, and the one with the water chestnut was ok. Next time I will be trying the deep fried banana.
Steamed-fish is the reason I came here to try, even with the Entertainer voucher, add a couple of drinks, the cost for two went over 500. However, their set-menu-options (you find these on the last pages of the menu,) sounds economical, which is something I will consider next time.
