Went here for lunch whilst visiting RAK with family. The restaurant design was very refreshing, pleasant and airy with a touch of both modern and traditional decorations. They had rooms decorated to mimic a majilis for families or one can choose to sit in the tables. We got the room as we had a toddler and didn’t want her to run around. The room was decorated with pillows and the cushions for sitting with space in the middle. We got some juices, and a mango salad and asked the server to suggest a dish big enough for all of us. He gave us the seafood platter which came with a huge amount of rice, two grilled fishes, prawns, squid and a cabbage tuna salad. The rice was really tasty, and the fish and the prawns were season well and was refreshingly fresh. The squid however was a bit too hard and it felt like we were chewing on rubber. The juices and mango salad was great as well but a bit too expensive. In line with Covid-19 precautions, all the plates, cups and utensils were plastic which made it a little difficult to eat, but that is not the restaurants fault. The only issue was that they charged me for two water bottles when we got only one and it took a while to sort that out, especially since one bottle costs AED 13! Overall a great place to try at least once since the place is quite expensive and difficult to afford all the time.
The hospitality is superb and the food absolutely yummilicious! Will definitely come again :)
Atmosphere and service are great, and the menu is designed well to teach you historical and cultural aspects behind the dishes. The food is good but more expensive than similar cuisine elsewhere in RAK.

We decided to order seafood so we had seafood soup, jesheed and fish biryani.
One of my favorite meals here is (Moghar Maleh) it’s delicious and made just prfect.. i tried also machboos robyan and harees soup i think I’ll have the machboos next time i come here.. thank you so much for the great treatment , the waitress she was so friendly and kind.. I recommend this restaurant.. thank you❤️
It is a very nice restaurant with great food and tasty. The service is very good and the waitresses are friendly and polite. I tried this restaurant several times and every single time I didn't regret it and will continuo eating with this fine restaurant. My children liked it too and keep asking to come to it again and again

This place is really nice i deal like it is very passionative and makes me feel comfortable and it shows the past in the Emirates it makes it like showing us everything and the traditional food is very delicious it is the best place.
Very nice and traditional cuisine. Warm and friendly staff. Highly recommend visiting. Note, large food portions, so come hungry. I would recommend trying their traditional margourat laham.

We had a great dining experience here. The food was authentic and delicious. The service was very prompt and friendly. The chicken was tender and fish was fresh. I would definitely recommend tourists to try this restaurant while staying in Rak!

First time i visited an authentic emirati restaurant. the decor was amazingly done and staff were very welcoming. The food was good but sadly they ran out of harees which i really wanted to try

Al Fanar restaurant really surprised me when it came to how beautifully decorated the restaurant was. The Emirati theme was fantastic with even the waiters decked out in traditional gear.
For dinner my wife and I ordered the jarjeer salad and koftak samak as starters and the 'laham margougat' as the main course. For drinks we ordered the 'namoona' juice and the berry milkshake. Btw as soon as you sit down the server brings you a bowl of chickpeas in a clear broth as an appetiser.
The juices arrived and the berry milkshake was excellent but I found that the namoona juice which had lemon, passion fruit and pineapple was super sweet almost sickly sweet eventl though the server assured us that they add no sugar.
The samak kofta are basically fish cakes or fish cutlets and they were excellent. We got 5 pieces on the plate and it was served with a tangy tomato sauce which is supposedly a Fanar restaurant special sauce. I Loved the fish cakes as it was lightly spiced which didn't overpower the fish at all. Maybe the spicing would be considered less for people who like spicy food but for me they were really good. I would definitely order them again
The main course is a meat stew in a tomato based sauce which is thickened with bread and also includes veggies. The meat was really tender and succulent but I found the sauce a little too tangy for my taste. I have had versions of this before which I've probably enjoyed more.
Overall the restaurant experience was wonderful, the space was really impressive. Loved the detailing and the authenticity of the theme. I need to sample more of the food on the menu but prices are a little on the high side. I've always had this issue with restaurants that charge a HUGE mark up for products that are easily available in the marketplace. For a large bottle of locally produced mineral water they charged me 12 dirhams.... Which is hard to swallow and I really feel it's way too steep for something I can buy off the supermarket shelf for 1.50aed and the restaurant probably sources it for even less.
The whole meal cost me 187AED which was ok considering the setting but I do want to go back there try out a few more food options and also the leqaimat.
Baby tiger, shrimp biryani, amazing food, superb service. Camel milk gelato absolutely mind blowing in a traditional setting. Parking easy in front of the door.

It’s not every day you dine at a themed restaurant and as tourists from the Indian sub-continent, we are pretty ignorant and tend to overlook a lot of what the GCC has to offer in term of local cuisine.
So here you have both these variables come together.
Al Fanar (alfanarrestaurant.com) is an Emirati themed restaurant that brings everything the UAE has to offer to its table under one roof. The interiors is built like an old Emirati house (Sand hut) decorated with old artefacts and walls adorned with pictures of Old Dubai / Abu Dhabi from the 1950’s and onwards.
The servers are dressed local Emirati dress for the Gandoorah for Men and traditional coloured Abayas for women.
The menu is pretty lavish with a description provided for every dish.
So here are my thoughts on the food :
We were greeted with the mandatory served appetizer i.e. dates drizzled with peanut butter sauce which was very tasty.
❇Margougat Laham @AED65 - The dish is a mix of bread pieces mixed with Meat (Laham) stem , Potatoes and vegetables in gravy . (3-3.5/5) 😉
❇Machboos Deyay @AED52 - Machboos (Majboos) is a variant of the Biryani and is the national dish of Bahrain. Deyay is the Arabic synonym for Chicken. The dish is the spicier version of the Arabian Biryani (not to be compared to the Indian version which is the spiciest of them all. :P (4/5)👍😊
❇Beryani Leham @AED65 – The traditional Emirati Biryani (Beryani) served with meat. (4/5)👌😊
❇Harees @AED58 – Harees or hareesa is a popular Arab dish which includes a meat and wheat porridge, traditionally served during Ramadan season or special occasions. (3-3.5/5) ☺
This is similar to Haleem, which is the Hyderabadi (Indian) version on Harees.
❇Satalat Hamba Wa @AEd28 – Emirati Salad with mango Pieces inside (3.5/5)
❇Leqaimat @AED24 – Golden Crisp Dough Balls covered in dates Syrup . Highly recommended. The dough balls are baked to perfection with a mild crisp exterior which blends well when topped in Dates Syrup. (5/5) 😘
For Drinks we had orders the Namoona (Lemon, Pineapple and passion Fruit) & Hanoom (Carrot & Orange). Both were served fresh. (4/5)
Some of the dishes like to Margougat and Harees are an acquired taste and I would advise you to request the servers to help you with the menu if you are not experimental in nature.
The service is pretty good with restaurant providing 2 sections, with a private section especially for Private family dinners.
The restaurant has its presence felt within the UAE hosting branches in 6 locations across 5 out of the 7 emirates.

A wonderful restaurant to experience traditional Emirati food. I have to flag up that the vegetarian options are very limited but if you eat eggs there's a lot of breakfast options to sample. They also have private rooms where you can enjoy traditional experience. The meal starts with complimentary chickpeas. We ordered a jug of laban which was freshly made and perfectly seasoned. I had the lentil soup that was delicious, especially with fried onion. We ordered the starter platter and the meat patty was the best. Onto mains, we had the prawn and preserved lemon rice which was wonderful because we'd never tasted something like that along with kebab Emirati and a breakfast bread. Finished with two desserts. I loved the custard because of the strong flavour of rose water but not everyone likes that. It also got too sweet after a few bites. Also tried the pistachio cake which was ok. Service and ambience were excellent.
This place serves one of the best Emirati cuisine. Love the ambience and the vibe of the place.
They start by serving the mandatory dates drizzled with peanut butter sauce. Our server Nikhil was very helpful in helping us select the perfect dish suiting our requirements. We ordered the chicken grill kebabs and chicken and rice with al fanar sauce on the side. We also called for their mango and tomato salad with assorted leaves and the perfect dressing to compliment the salad. The chicken kebabs melted in our mouth, the chicken was rich and succulent. The kebabs were served with the bread on the side. The chicken and rice was made in rich tomato gravy served with potatoes. The portions size are generous so be careful to order. Curd and famous al fanar were served on the side. We were stuff by the end of the meal.
Thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Emirati cuisine.

Al fanar restaurant is the great choice for local old emirate food experience. Hands up to all the staff who have well knowledge about food and warm service. And ofcourse the food were superb never thought i would had appreciate so much the emirati local dish. The whole ambiance was great its take you to the old past life of emiratis.its feel like you were there. In short alfanar is a total package for a great emirate life experience. Banzai!!!!

The restaurant is with uniformed staff which is designed to perfection. The food they offer is nice and the quality is good: service wise. James served us with kindness.

We visited the restaurant for lunch. The staff was really helpful and friendly especially Rashmeet who was extra kind to my 7 year old son who took extra time trying to decide on what to order. We ordered Majboos diai ( chicken makboos) , grilled tuna and chicken tikka, we loved the spice notes in all of them. The portions are quite big. Easily shared by two people. For appitizer we tried the jarjeer salad and the tomato and onion salad both salads were perfectly seasoned, crisp and fresh.
The restaurant is amazing and the food is very fresh. James is amazing at service. The food specially the beryani is so tasty! we are regular customers here and its perfect as usual!

It's so good to feel the authenticity of emirates from the 1960's. I enjoyed my stay here! Staff is so kind. They treat us like family in Bait Al serdal with James and Rashmeet! A must try!!!!!
