In Calcutta this place is also known as Tangra. Long time back Chinese immigrants established tanneries there and later made a quick buck by modifying their original Hakka Chinese cuisine to suit the cravings of the Bengali palate, resulting in the birth of Indo-Chinese fusion food, AKA Hakka/ Tangra food.
