We had ordered the margherita pizza, wood fire potatoes and a baby spinach salad. The pizza and the cocktail were amazing. This place has a lovely vibe and is perfect for a date night.
The food is good and the Shisha is amazing 😉. Mostafa the Shisha guy is nice and friendly. Knows what he is doing😊
Basta is a trendy italian restaurant the Renaissance Hotel,Downtown Dubai. Fusing the food and feel of a Roman trattoria,Florentine steakhouse and Neapolitan pizzeria into one buzzing venue,BASTA!. They serve fresh and full flavored italian cuisine in a stylish place.Diners can enjoy delicious food and great music with a cozy ambiance at BASTA,and a great service we won’t forget.
Nice atmosphere and good food but very pricey. As Italian, I loved the ricotta and spinach tortelli, they were fresh and “al dente” like in Italy. The carbonara was not acceptable to italian standards though. Tiramisu okay even if with too much cream.
In good or bad times, this place is a reference for great food, great classy respectful service. I asked to replace provolone with Parmigiano and they did. I will surely come back.
Cure little place in Renaissance.
Starters might need a bit more of work.
Main pastas were something to talk about.
Cannoli and Tiramisu were the highlight of the night!
Really worths going back there!
Every restaurant at the Renaissance hotel in unique in its own way, not just because they serve different cuisines but also the way each one of them are done up really well, the service and every little attention to detail that have been looked into. Basta! is yet another GEM here.
The restaurant is really pretty with quirky interiors and a lovely outdoor facing the Dubai Water Canal. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is simply delicious.
We were here to try the Saturday brunch which is actually a set menu and everything from the starters to the dessert is brought to the table. We were told that there was a live music band that played all afternoon however as we were there post New Years they were having a quiet afternoon.
We started the meal with the Tuscan bread salad and the Mozzarella Caprese, tomatoes basil with olive oil. Both of these were extremely flavorful and fresh. The Antipasti selection followed. This was a platter with generous portions of cold cuts, Italian cheese, Olives, Sun-dried pesto and pumpkin Bruschetta, this platter was an absolute treat and was irresistible.
We were then brought the Wood Fired Pizza, this one was a Margarita, needless to say we loved it and Margarita being my favorite I couldn't stop eating this one. We were also served the seafood pasta. This one had great flavor however was slightly undercooked.
Now coming to the mains, we were served the Grilled Chicken scaloppini in devil sauce with red onions and bell pepper, this one had tender pieces of chicken breast in a mildly spicy sauce that had great flavor. For the mains we were also served the Chef's selection of butcher cut Tagliata. It is tender chunks of steak with greens on the side, this one simply melted in the mouth.
Italian desserts are always the best and here we were served the Tiramisu with crushed biscotti, Sfogiatella (a lobster tail in English as it resembles it) is an Italian pastry with a berry filling and a Lemon panna-cotta. Every single bite into this was sinful but was worth it.
I went this Saturday to Basta by David Meyers located at Renaissance Hotel in Business Bay to try their latest Saturday Brunch called Viaggiare Con Basta which means Travel with Basta!. Let’s start with the Antipasti Platter composed of cold cut, Italian cheese, olives, sun-dried tomato pest and ,pumpkin bruschetta with ricotta salata, and aged balsamic.
Enjoyed a business lunch with a friend
A little Italy!
The food was great
we ordered
No. 1
No. 4
Buffalo mozzarella caprese
Tomato & walnuts pesto bruschetta
Wild mushrooms
Chefs selection butchers cut
Roscioli tiramisu
Strawberry granite
The pizza is really good with a genuine italian taste; loved the Calzone.
A very nice place with great canal view, but it was a bit too noisy.
Basta! is a licensed, casual dining Italian restaurant and pizzeria at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Business Bay. A high ceiling and full glass façade with a magnificent view of the Dubai Canal gives this handsomely appointed eatery an airy sense of occasion. And the fact that this is a restaurant owned and run by the Gypsy Chef, David Myers, gives it a sense of excitement.
The service and food was great..for dessert they recommended that I try the tiramisu and claimed that it's the absolute favourite of the guest.. I tried it and it was just divinely good
Simple Italian food how it should be. Not over complicated or fussy just clean, fresh flavours and wonderful service. The restaurant looks good too and has quite a cool atmosphere.
Food was good, not great! But the place has a great atmosphere and the service is excellent. The staff were very friendly and from different ethnicities which was great!
Amazing Italian food!! very friendly and attentive staff who try to give you the best experience. Lovely setting, next to the water. Perfect for a romantic dinner as well.
will definitely come back here for Italian food!! We had a pizza magherita with buffalo mozarella 4/5! Garlic bread 4/5 and a pasta bolognese 4/5. As desert we had teramisu 5/5!
If I would go back to the restaurant, it would probably be because of the great food and the SUPER FRIENDLY service ! The managers and waiters are very welcoming, very friendly and sweet !
we ordered two pizzas , a pasta , two starters and a side dish which was the potato wedges. I think they forgot our potatoes and when we notified the manager about that, he was sorry and served us 3 desserts for free !!!
Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the burrata with the complementary focaccia bread . Their tiramisu was also one of the best.
I really recommend this restaurant. 💗
Highly recommend the restaurant - great food and extremely friendly service. We’ve tried burrata, grilled calamari, pasta and sirloin steak and all the food was absolutely amazing! Well done Chef and Basta! staff
Went for Aperitivo Hour - 2 drinks and a snack for 68 AED. Generous drinks and quality food.
Nice decor - Italian mid century modern style, and impressive kitchen setup.
Staff are friendly and helpful - unlike some other outlets they actually are happy to be there. Will try the dinner menu next. Will be back.
What a funky place! Food was fantastic and the service was super. It's just a tad bit too dark. It's difficult to read the menu. I'll be back!
Basta is Italian Inspired Restaurant in Renaissance Downtown Hotel, Dubai. Serving authentic Italian Cuisine from Pizza, Pasta and Steaks. once you enter the Restaurant you will get hungry with Aromas of the Freshly Baked Pizza. get amazed with the Interior of the restaurant, lights and the huge hand painted artwork of Iconic Actress Sophia Loren.
Fall in love with this place at first sight! The ambiance, food and staff were amazing. So friendly and kind Adam made us feel as the VIP guests. Definitely will come again.
Quality food in a beautiful setting. What can I say. Everything I had was fantastic! Their burrata to start with was just beautiful I could cry! So creamy and it goes so well with the cherry tomatoes! The seafood pasta was super fresh. The assorted breads were unforgettable. The braised ribs and the cuttlefish sooo tender. Outdoor seating with a great view. Service was excellent. This is the kind of place I would bring my clients and friends to. Such a great experience. I would keep coming back.
Great food and great location. Very polite and friendly staff. Prawn pasta was delicious and so was the lamb chops. Not a great selection in desserts but generous quantity in entrees and mains.
First time I visited Basta and definitely not the last. Started off with the truffle pizza that tasted fresh and full of flavor. Followed the pizza with a rich and tasty mushroom risotto. Topped it off with a delicious tiramisu that was so kindly given to us on the house by the staff. Definitely worth the visit.
One of my favorite spots in Dubai. I have to start by saying that the service here is absolutely brilliant. They are welcoming and extremely helpful from the moment you walk in, through wine selection and food. The place itself is also really nice - it’s very laidback/quiet and the outdoor seating is beautiful. Food selection is limited but good. Our mains were absolutely phenomenal (meatball recommended!) but the starters got mixed reviews from our table.
Very vibrant restaurant with tasty food. Quantity & quality worth paying for ... great service and drinks made to perfection. You will be very pleased to meet the Manager, he presented to us free dessert that we really enjoyed ... definitely will go back again.
Friendly staff and hostess. Amazing food, but little slow for the service and delayed food . All in all was good. I definitely recommend to my friends
Lovely place, lovely food and of course great hospitality. I liked their pasta options and lovely cocktails. Staff is courteous and yes ambience is very soothing
Came here for dinner.
Ordered the pumpkin toast ( very good)
Meatballs ( average in taste)
Calzone ( was ok)
Mushroom risotto (very good)
And tiramisu ( best must try) its not so sweet but very different. Recommending it
Staff were friendly and attentive
With Sprezzatura
My favorite italian restaurant in town! It has a nice view of water. And i love their pizza! The dough is very well done. Just like you are in italy! And burrata salad is so good one portion is not enough!
we went there for lunch We liked the experience, Loved the place, good atmosphere, good vibes, welcoming staff , and very good food , looking forward for the good weather to sit outside
We tried the restaurant week menu. Which was 160aed per person and provided us with 10 dishes to try.
I must say, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal, drinks, and service from start to finish. Everything was great, especially loved the truffle pizza and tiramisu. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a casual Italian lunch or dinner in a great ambiance.
I had the salmon for the main it was cooked to perfection, for the appetizer I had caprese salad the flavor was delicious although I would prefer riper tomato’s as it tasted a little green... overall it was a fresh experience with a modern bright ambience
I went today for lunch since I work around the area.
The place is located inside Renaissance Hotel in Business Bay, has Valet parking.
Excellent service from hotel on arrival. The hotel lobby is very beautiful and full of natural light.
I had the business lunch option, you can choose 2 or 3 courses.
I had 2: Caprese salad. The portion was good, but I would say a lot of cheese for not much tomato, and as well the cheese wasn't that tasty, the pesto was good though.
They gave me freshly made focaccia which was served on top of fresh rosemary (I would prefer it a bit more aromatic) but the texture of the bread was great.
Together with the salad they gave me another type of brad (like country bread) was delicious !
There was olive oil and balsamic vinegar in the table, but was placed a bit far to reach with my hands! Was very good too.
I had the Cacio e Pepe pasta. Big Penne with cheese and pepper.
The pasta was cooked al dente, perfectly made but the sauce had a very strong flavor of butter.
I finished it all ! I liked it, but I can still feel the butter flavor in my mouth!
Service was great from hostess to servers.
The place is lovely, great decoration a lot of natural light and comfortable tables.
I'll go back for sure
An amazing Italian joint developed in the heart of Business bay. The outdoor seating is amazing with the canal views. The service is spot on. The menu is quite good with some great food choices. Lots of vegetarian food options. The interior is good enough. The bar is exciting. The play some good music with the food. The wine list is pretty good. Go for it
I must say this was a very pleasant surprise. Interior design is super casual yet very chic finishing. Staff are warm and welcoming without being overbearing. Food is spot on. I was here a few weeks ago and tried the tasting menu. It is essentially a journey through the menu in smaller portions. I returned again and tried a wide variety from the a la carte menu. There was not a single disappointing dish. Beef carpaccio was tender and thickness was excellent. Pizza was super, crispy dough and correct seasoning. Excellent tomato sauce. Pasta was perfectly aldente. Another thing I love about Basta is their bread and use of fresh herbs. It is a must try in my books. Oh and the desserts were brought to us by the restaurant manager which was extremely generous and made us feel even more at home!
Love it! Amazing food presentation and great taste.. the place itself is just amazing and the view of the canal is so nice! Both the indoor and outdoor areas have great ambience. And the staff are so friendly.
The rating is more like 3.5, but rounded it up because of its stylish interiors. This is a casual Italian restaurant with a touch of style probably the effect of the chef. We tried burrata and beef carpaccio; both were ok which was a disappointment as my expectation was really high after Bleu Blanc.
A lovely experience from entry to exit
My thoughts
- friendly efficency service
- beautiful decor, bright during daytime and full of energy
- recommend the sweet corn agnolotti pasta along with the montepulciano house wine
- end the experience with a slow coffee (black)
Special thanks to Joel for his wonderful service
I went with some friends and i was the first to arrive, i kind of arrived at the same time with a couple of ladies but i was seconds earlier and infront of them. The lady at the door chose to ignore me and look at them instead but i spoke to her to get her attention and told her about my reservation. Not a biggie though I understand in such situations you could be caught off guard and the rest of the experience made up for it.
We were seated next to the glass windows as per my request and although i personally loved the romantic atmosphere, my friends thought it was a bit too dark.
Our waiter was very patient and helpful as my friends and i took forever to order. He helped us select things from the menu and while selecting pasta he informed us that they can do any selection we like off the menu which i think is a great plus because the pasta selection offered was mostly the basics and i would say that emiratis are generally used to a different pasta scene with more sauce and ingredients.
So we ordered the burrata, now im not a fan of burrata specially that it sometimes has a milky taste which i dont like. But this burrata i honestly had to stop myself from eating to have space for the mains. Sooo good!
the tomato walnut pesto bruschetta reminded me of the tomato bruschetta from an Italian restaurant by the Sydney opera house in Australia. I was forever craving that bruschetta and now im so happy i found something similar here in Dubai. I was scared that itll be too walnut-ish but it wasnt it was just perfect.
We also had the mushroom pepperoni pizza which i wish i had a slice of from the beginning but it was considered as a starter and arrived with three other starters so it wasnt as fresh and hot when i ate it but it was still pretty good. It just meltsss.
Now for the pastas, my friends made their combination of pink sauce mushroom and chicken which they said tasted good but i didnt try it since i needed tummy space for other dishes.
We had a basic rigatoni with pecorino cheese, let me tell you the taste was so not basic it was so good that im craving it at this moment. I do think though that 30 seconds more pasta boiling time wouldve made it better for me.
There was also the mushroom risotto that my friends liked but I honestly couldnt judge cz i was quite full by the time i ate it. It didnt blow my mind like the pasta but worth a try and better than many risottos ive tried in the past.
For desert we opted for icecream. We got lemon, chocolate and i think the third was salted caramel not sure but we all enjoyed.
To top it all off we got a complimentary tiramisu but by that time i cd only have one more bite for the sake of trying it, but my friends did a good job of almost finishing it.
Overall i loved the experience and would definitely promote and go back!
Best pizza in Dubai!!! I went there 2 times already. I will go back again soon!! Love this place so much! All the staff there are so nice, we love everything there.
It’s the second time I visit Basta, the first time I visited it was only my friend and I, Jonay Gonzalez greeted us with his cheerful personality and seated us outside were the view and the weather was gorgeous. We had wood fired pizza which we enjoyed with drinks.
So we decided to make a second visit and invite 2 more friends. As we sat inside this time, Jonay came again to greet us with his joyful personality and recommended dishes with details of the ingredient that made me want to order it.
I ordered A delicious Burrata and Jonay recommended that we try something new, beef carpaccio, sliced thin raw meat. I thought it was ok but 2 of my friends liked it, if your a fan of raw meat, you would like the dish.
The tomato and walnut pesto toast bruschetta and potatoes were my staple at the Italian restaurant, just perfect.
Spaghetti meatballs and classic lasagne was average.
The most delicious star dish was the mushroom risotto, cooked so perfect not a single flaw but I thought the portion was a small portion, or maybe we loved it so much that it finished fast.
As for dessert, Jonay choose for us the Tiramisu which was a superb choice, chocolate shavings melting in your mouth with a crunch of lady finger pieces in the middle of the mascarpone, so dreamy.
And the panna cotta was also Jonay’s recomendation, the red grapes and cherry were too sweet for us but the panna cotta was enjoyable.
We would like to say thank you to Jonay Gonzalez for his recommendations and a big shout out to the beautiful canary island, one day will make that trip.
The ambience was very warm and pleasant. Service was also good and prices were reasonably affordable.
We had a great Experience but my friends and i asked for Chef David Myers to meet with him but unfortunately he was in Hong Kong visiting his restaurant.
I would recommend everyone to try Basta, one of my friends was sceptical about the restaurant after she read the old reviews but after she tried it, she loved the food. Great experience.
This restaurant is one which I would never not go to. Always a good option and place to pass a nice evening. The food is of great quality (especially the pizzas). Service is alright but the food, the outside seating and the view are just a great combination.
Highly recommended, will be back soon, worth to try, the food was very tasty and fresh, decor is just beautiful and spot on, service is attentive, will definitely come back soon,
Beautiful place. Super friendly and attentive service. Beautiful and fresh food. The most delicious seafood soup I’ve ever had in Dubai. Definitely coming back.
Simple and delicious
The menu is straight to the point and priced well
The food is simple but delicious, portion size is good for one. Kids friendly !!
Service could be better and attentive, will go back for more
Finally and delicious Italian restaurant with a gorgeous outdoor ambience and prices that won’t break the bank.
I’ve eaten there twice already and went for afternoon drinks, and I’m yet to be disappointed!
The bisteccca is epic, the pastas are simple and mouthwatering and even the simple lemon gelato was great. We’ve been told by the wonderful Spanish manager that the ingredients are from Italy which is why their tomato’s taste different.
The best part of the restaurant is the outdoor area overlooking the canal; you can now enjoy a drink with a view that’s not confined.
I would only note that they are understaffed but so friendly which is why I am still giving them 5 stars.
One of the tastiest Italian restaurant in Dubai. Grilled calamari are the best.I like it a lot. Everything fresh and tasty:) and interior is very nice
Excellent food and ambience.
Service was slow and random. No one came to check upon us and the servers kept changing. However food quality was outstanding.
My go to place for Italian food!
I've been here multiple times as I have stayed in the hotel a few times.
Everything is simple and tries to reflect the traditional tastes of various regions in Italy. And I think they hit the nail on the head with this concept as the food feels like it was prepared at home without any bells and whistles. Like home, you get to add the olive oil salt pepper pares an to your liking. The rigatoni is amazing. And the pizza is what my Italian friends consider proper! I like the wild mushroom pizza the most and I always order a take-out box to have upstairs in the comfort of my hotel room.
Visited for lunch unintentionally as my plan was to try the ‘Menu de Jour’ at Bleu Blanc. Both restaurants are by American Chef David Myers. Bleu Blanc was closed due to preparations for their grand opening.
Opted for the business lunch which is your choice of either pizza, panini, or pasta (of the day) accompanied by a side salad. I selected the pasta, which was simple but tasty. Salad was so bland, I had to drizzle it with olive oil & balsamic myself. Most of the neighboring tables ordered the pizza, which looked good.
At AED 79 including a bottle of water, it represent good value (for Dubai standards).
Will be back to review their brunch.
The food was great and the service amazing! I really enjoyed the full experience and definitely recommend this restaurant :) Great job to Charlotte and Maite who made us have a great time at Basta.
Really delicious Italian cuisine. We shared a couple of starters and could not get enough of the Burrata and the Pumpkin Toast with Ricotta. What a delight!
For mains we had different pasta dishes. Everything tasted fresh and unique.
Service was great to and we had a beautiful table with a canal view. Really nice atmosphere and definitely a place to return to.
This perfectly decorated restaurant with inside and outside sitting with vue on the lake is one of the place i felt in love with. The staff are friendly and have this elegant smile and always around to take care of us we tried the pizzas gluten free and regular margarita with authentic italian taste reasonable prices and easy valet parking access the management was very welcoming and caring if everything was good during our dinner perfect for all kind of socializing can feet this place nice music and lighting to be visited again for sure can’t wait to try the pasta
Basta is the city’s newest Italian restaurant at the equally brand new and stunning Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Dubai. It is the brainchild of the world-renowned chef David Myers (who I just have to say was very nice and accommodating when I met him at the launch of the hotel). Anyway, as we entered, I was in awe of the seriously stylish space and the high ceiling and you can never miss the beautiful painting on the wall that I saw has been used as the backdrop for many Instagram posts. It was spacious and airy and was comfortable enough to stay at for hours. They also have a nice dining area outside with a view of the canal and is very relaxing.
Went for lunch during the week in this new Italian place by the gipsy chef David Myers in the recent opened Renaissance Hotel and enjoyed the experience. Here’s my review:
FOOD QUALITY - 5/5
Home made pasta, with top quality ingredients.
FOOD PRESENTATION - 5/5
I loved how they composed my dish. Simple and beautiful like a real trattoria.
FOOD TASTE - 2/5
My spaghetti with meatballs didn’t have any taste, I think they could have done much better job on the tomato sauce. I had to ask for parmesan to bring some taste into it.
SERVICE - 3/5
I was well received by the manager at the entrance and I could feel that they were anxious to provide good service ( by being a new restaurant ), but somehow this anxiety should not be perceived by the clients. Immediately after I sit at the table of my choice, a girl came asking for my personal details, like phone and email. And during the course of the service, I was asked 3 times if I wanted water…. Maybe it’s just me, but when I’m in a restaurant, I like to relax, and not being all the time approached by a waiter. If I want something, I will ask for it. I don’t need to be offered.
DESIGN AND AMBIENCE - 5/5
The image of Sophia Loren on the big wall is simply brilliant and the choice of furniture and cutlery along with the striking graphic design of the menu, makes this place a must go for design lovers.
SOUNDTRACK - 5/5
Great energetic contemporary music that made me feel into the mood of having a nice lunch. I would also congratulate the hotel for providing such an amazing soundtrack.
GOOD FOR
Business lunch or coming with friends to share different foods.
MUST TRY
I only tried the spaghetti with meatball and I don’t recommend, but for a next time I would try the wood-fire pizza. Wanna see if it’s as close as da Michele in Napoli
IN ONE SENTENCE
A taste of Rome, Florence and Napoli in the heart of Dubai
Cacio e Pepe Rigatoni from the newly opened @basta_dubai by Chef David Meyers. Good food and lovely atmosphere. This pasta was my favorite and I also enjoyed their Gorgonzola pizza with bacon and sweet onions. However, the Milanese Scaloppini wasn't that great, their lemon butter & capers sauce was flavorless and was just a greasy compliment to the "already" greasy dish. Other than that, it was good and I'll try his other restaurant @bleublanc_dubai also located in the @rendxb this week too ❤ (sorry for the low quality image but the lighting wasn't the best lol)
