Just noticed that there is no 4.5 rating here anymore, I felt this place is more of 5 than a 4. I had a real good evening, enjoying I guess for the first time, Armenian cuisine, actually its a Lebanese/ Armenian fusion food. The restaurant is located in the newly developed Al Seef area, which is a phenomenal creek front development. The restaurant from outside looks like the traditional mud/ mortar house but when you step in you will be amazed to see the wonderful interiors inside. You can choose to sit inside if not outside and the outside area has smoking and non smoking seating areas, both have got some spectacular views of the creek. Turquoise interiors, massive pillars, unique designs gives you the feel of being in a traditional arab/ eastern whereabouts. You can easily sit over 200 ppl in this area.
We started our Armenian food journey with the Hummus, Kibeh and Armenian Itch. From the outset I need to say this, the presentation was immaculate, the culinary team had given great thought into the food presentation and I was told the cutlery, most of it was imported from Turkey, and you will see in ll the dishes, great quality. The hummus was nice, nothing different from the other but there it came in a nice piped design. I loved the Armenian Itch, there was no itch here but it was an amazing flavours doing their magic. This was made from Burghul wheat, tomato, parsley, spring onion, pomegranate molasses and many other ingredients. I have not had anything like this, refreshing, delicious and excellent portion size, perfect for sharing. You sill surely love this dish The Kibeh was great too, they have put their name on this dish, this comes with minced meat, Burghul, walnut and topped with pomegranate seed. loved it too, nice mix of ingredients in each bite.
For the main we tried the Sujuk roll and Ghapama and Mamikonyan kofta. The sujuk roll was ok for me, I felt it was a tad bit hard inside and had to dab a bit more of the pomegranate molasses to give that additional flavor. but I was impressed by the Ghapama, which is a traditional Armenian dish, where a pumpkin is baked with meat, rice, dry fruit and much more. This is good for at least 3 people. Really great, had a nice balance with the cooked pumpkin and the rice and meat, This Sir, is a must try dish here, you will definitely love it. The Kofta was nice, first time I tried with cheer and cheery sauce, It was a tad bit hard for me but the cheery flavours was strong, a good take by the chef on this one. This portion is good for two people.
Overall It was one fine evening here, need to mention the staff here were friendly and attentive, always with a smile, ready to serve, they are all fixed up with wires around their ears, where everyone is connected for prompt and seamless service. Donnie, the restaurant manager was a star, his personality and menu / ingredient knowledge was excellent. I really appreciate his time for taking me thru the Armenian food journey. My advice, visit these guys here , when you are in this area, take a seat outside and the view is priceless. I wish the Mikoyan team a great success in all what you do.
