A perfect Friday evening it was when my hubby decided to take us to Time’s Square Mall. Of course his reasons were like all other men, the massive electronics store. But as hunger made sounds inside my tummy, I was quiet reluctant to go there as i wanted to stay clear from the usual 'FAST FOOD’! That’s when I came across a new restaurant called Qureshi and Wong, an Indo-Chinese place that opened a week ago in Times Square. Initially I was quite reluctant to get inside as they did not have a menu displayed outside and it seems like one of those places where you pay a bit over the odds. However before I could change my mind my hubby, mummy and baby were already in making themselves comfortable. The interior of this place is very cozy and the décor was mixed with Indian and Chinese currencies, stamps and key attractions as wall images. The thing I liked the most is that they have converted bird cages as hanging lamps which looked very unique as we enter the place. Also they have a big bar area for customers who just come in to have juices or mock tails. The menu is what surprised us the most due to the variety and price as it was highly affordable (Whew!) The Qureshi name itself defines heritage cuisine, the specialty being Tandoor and Wong being one of the oldest and strongest family names in china. So when the two get together, definitely an outburst of sensory taste buds is bound to happen. To top it up, the head chef's here too come with a legendary past. The Indian head chef Abdul L Qureshi specializes in Tandoor and Indian Curry. He has been trained by the renowned chef Imtiaz Qureshi, the grand master chef of ITC hotels. Chef Wong on the other hand is a culinary personality specializing in Thai and Chinese food adding Chinese traditions to modern flavors Our friendly attendant George helped us choose the Chef’s special from the menu which consisted of Tandoori Tiger Prawns, Dal Makhni, Garlic Naan, Bami Goreng with glasses of Lassi. Must say the Garlic Naan was probably the best I have had in Dubai. It was crispy and filled with flavor and honestly for a second I felt like ratatouille savoring each flavor from the Naan. The prawn was char-grilled to perfection and was mildly spicy. The Goreng was a mixture of sweet and spicy flavor and was a treat to the tummy. What I have to stress on is the Dal Makhni. I am not very fond of any items made with dal so when the Makhni option was laid on the table, I immediately opted for the Goreng. But this was the best tasting Makhni ever. I honestly thank our attendant who in turn convinced me to try it as he was so sure that it is something that no one will say “NO’ to. He even told us that 'In case we do not like his suggestions the food is on him' which boosted our trust in his choice. Unlike the other Makhni’s that i have tasted this was not filled with cream. It was neither too sweet nor buttery. The dal was cooked to perfection with a mild spicy taste. Even my 11 month old seemed to enjoy it so much with Naan that we all got to eat in peace I definitely would like to go back and try their Biriyani’s which is their signature dish as well as their Lunch Meal Buffet which is only AED 39 for a 7 course meal.
