(التعليق الأصلي) Well, I’ve been writing on Zomato for quite some time now and I think I’ve toiled hard to be a 13 connoisseur which is the highest level on the App. With that kind of experience and me being a cooking enthusiast allow me to place this on record “In my opinion this place serves the BEST Kerala Meals( Thali) I’ve ever had in my life!!!!” Cochin Express is a Recent outlet which is making its presence felt in Dubai’s vivid and over-bearing culinary history. I was there for Lunch this Saturday and wanted to try Biryani, porotta and other things just like our previous visit but the staff insisted that we try the meals and Boy I am glad that I did !!! They serve it on a banana leaf layered on a tray(innovation at its best! ). What particularly caught my attention was the Mambazha pulissery(Mango curry to put it simple) was just out of this world:- I’ve never ever tasted anything this tasty with mango before( this is coming from a Non-Aam Admi; I was never a Mango Man!!!!). Kudos to the chef! Same goes to other dishes like puli-inji(ginger-tamarind sauce), Avial(a kind of thick mixed vegetable curry), daal( lentils), sambar and other curries too! Each one seemed to compete with the other! Also there was this side made of banana flower and coconut shreds which took me down the memory lane to Kottayam! Sigh..! We also ordered a full Fish fry which was well presented, soft and succulent fish in a crispy outer layer. I can’t recollect the name of the fish though! We also wanted to be a little adventurous and went ahead and ordered a Kaattu Pothu Roast( African Wild Buffalo aka Cape Buffalo!). This was “damn-bloody-good” and was prepared with a keen sense of perfection by the chef. The portion was pretty good too for a exquisite dish like that!! Since we had “Sonny Boy” along we also tried their Chinese cuisine which was surprisingly good for a mallu place serving predominantly Kerala stuff( well, this is what I thought!). The Thai fried rice was nicely done, flavourful and tasty and the Hong Kong Chicken was tangy and melt in the mouth chicken cubes!! The staff out here is one of the most courteous and well-mannered I’ve seen in Dubai. They are present at all times at the slightest wave of your hand! The Manager, Mr Vishnu is a jovial guy and he personally meets and greets the guests. The Ambience is pretty good and so are the quotes on the paper table mats. So folks I recommend this place if you are a fan of Kerala cuisine or Malabari food as it is popularly known as in these parts. If you are a thali lover you should try it(very strongly recommended). For my North Indian friends, some of whom are staunch vegetarians, you also have the option of vegetarian thali( minus the fish curries):- I insist that you should try the Mango curry!! You won’t regret it! My previous visit review is also appended below:- 07 April 2018 It was a pleasant surprise having been to this place yesterday; especially right after a bad experience at “It’s Malabar”, this place was a welcome change to us for sure!! Staff is very friendly, enthusiastic and so was Mr Vishnu, the manager. They opened around four months back and it was on my list for some time now!! Interiors are pretty decent with classic old world charm meets contemporary look!! Food is just delicious:- Appams were soft inside crispy outside with a light hint of sweetness! Porotta was crunchy outside mushy inside and melts in your mouth!! I also tried the Chemba puttu which was so very soft I fell for it instantly! We didn’t try any of their speciality dishes like deer or rabbit but stuck to basics like chicken varattiyathu and chicken 65. Chicken varattiyathu was well presented and had the right mixture of flavours ! Chicken 65 was soft and succulent with crisp curry leaves and cocktail frymes to garnish.. wow!! Presentation is artistic!! Their portions are good and is value for money considering their pricing!!
